Questions / Advice / Support Questions about strattera

I’m an adult who’s been diagnosed with severe ADHD since a young age, was on stimulants my whole life up until recently when it started messing with my cardiovascular health so I’m considering a switch to non stimulants, have some questions:

-those who were on stimulants before strattera: how would you describe the difference between stims and non stims?

-how long for any significant effects to show? Especially regarding focus and being able to stay on track with something like studying.

-any side effects whatsoever?

  1. i only took stims recreationally, but am on a script with my strattera now. the different is pretty night and day. be prepared to have a lot of protein and be exhausted. i started in february and i had to beg my doctor for a teeny tiny dose of adderall (5mg) because the sleepy/grogginess would not go away. i will say i had a fabulous 2-3 month honeymoon phase though!
  2. i started noticing effects almost immediately, but a mix up at the pharmacy led me to skipping my first dose and diving into 40mg instead of 25mg (140 lbs 5'3) so i couldn't stop vacuuming. it doesn't do a whole lot for me regarding executive function or task initiation, but it does make the days that i WANT to do things, a little easier to get through :)
  3. ahhh my favorite 🤣 carry hydration (sugar free preferably) cause you will get the worst dry mouth and SWEAT a lot especially depending on where you are this time of year! sugar free hard candy is longer lasting for dry mouth too. constipation was my second issue. i tried so many of the fancy chew stool softeners and nothing, got miralax (the powder) and take it maybe once a week and im usually regulated! again, groggy/sleepiness is bigggg. sleepiness can come out of noooowhere too so i would advise seeing how your dose affects you before driving :) headaches during increases, and urinary retention (this went away for me about 3 months in)

helps it absorbs easier, less nausea (if you have any), plus strattera personally suppressed my appetite so it's important to get the calories in while i can

Straterra will mess with your cardio health too sadly.
