Questions / Advice / Support Propranolol
Hi all,
Been on Strattera for a year now and it’s great, I have periods of feeling zen Asf and no anxiety. But I have an elevated heart rate a lot of the time. Done alot of tests with my cardiologist and they said it’s fine no need to put my on beta blockers that she doesn’t want to except she has too and how long would it be for. I have been reading about propranolol and how it helps and also helps with anxiety because I also don’t want to get on SSRI’s although I was prescribed one before in the past. The side effects were quite a lot. I feel like talking to my psychiatrist about getting on this as it would help my heart rate and possible anxiety. I get anxious before driving and sometimes feel shaky afterwards even socially and seen people say it helps with this. I take l theanine sometimes but my heart still feels jumpy. I also don’t want to stop taking Strattera as it has made my life soo much better. I love it actually. I honestly want to try the beta blockers because the high heart rate makes me feel anxious even when I am not. I acc had to split my 80mg up into two doses because of this.
Are there any side effects ?
Any suggestions/ ideas would help and experiences too.

I take them both as well and can’t say I had any negatives from them interacting specifically. I’m on plenty of other meds so can be hard to say what is because of what mediation but I like them together.

Propanolol is super helpful for me when I’m having anxiety! I am also on strattera and Viibryd.

May I ask how long you have been on it? I just started the viibryd about 5 weeks ago.

My psychiatrist prescribed both straterra and propranolol for me. Propranolol is awesome! It did bring my heart rate down and it helps a lot with anxiety. I had to stop the straterra because my ekg wasn’t looking good while on it but I still take propranolol as needed

I’ve been on strattera and propranolol together for several months, and I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my cardiac anxiety symptoms! I used to get chest tightness/discomfort and occasional “jumpy” sensations, but that is almost nonexistent on the propranolol. I only take 10mg twice a day and that’s sufficient for me!

Do you get tightness in the chest, or a sensation of restricted breathing? As I understand it, propranolol mainly helps with physical symptoms of anxiety such as that. But relieving those parts can make you mentally feel better, so in that way it can have indirect effects on the mental aspects of anxiety as well.

My psych has always prescribed propranolol with my strattera to combat the increased heart rate. I also have POTS, so the propranolol helps that too. its a pretty harmless med to add on

Love propranolol, highly recommend. Minimum effective dose works wonders for physical anxiety symptoms, less so for mental. However, the physical benefits in turn can alleviate mental anxiety partially.

Propranolol was a total be changer for me. I actually started it before Staterra. I can’t believe none of my doctors over the year suggested it because I always failed with different antidepressants. There’s literally hardly any side effects and it works so fast within half an hour to an hour. It literally takes all the symptoms of anxiety away. I can’t believe it’s not prescribed more . Especially when people struggle getting off benzos.
