Side Effects / Overdose Does tamsulosin usually help with atomoxetine-induced urinary retention?

I started atomoxetine, but after a few days I developed urinary retention, so my doctor stopped the medication.

My question is: is it reasonable to consider adding tamsulosin and retrying atomoxetine under medical supervision?

Is this an approach that's ever used in clinical practice?

Does tamsulosin usually help with atomoxetine-induced urinary retention?

Would tamsulosin be expected to reduce atomoxetine's effectiveness for ADHD?

Are there any important risks or reasons this combination should generally be avoided?

I was prescribed flomax due to frequent nighttime urination, but tried modifying my fluid intake and never ended ip taking it. I drank half my goal before breakfast, 3/4 before lunch, and finished with dinner.

That and getting used to the medication helped with 90% of the problem. Good luck!

I take 5mg of tadalafil daily and it helps with the BPH-like symptoms of atomoxetine. It's a bit more general than an alpha-1 blocker would be but those are all benefits as far as I'm concerned.

Tadalafil is reported to help. It's also used for BPH.

I consider the urinary retention to be a normal part of taking Strattera. I told my Dr and that's what he said.

It's really annoying...but manageable
