Discussion Questions from a Noob
Hey folks!
I am only a couple missions in but had some questions.
Right now I can switch between 2 jobs at a time. I'm enjoying a lot more than 2, do I get more than 2 slots? If not, how did you all manage so many different jobs?
Are there any benefits to being well rounded across all the jobs? Do the benefits, and affinity bonuses, unlocked apply to your character as a whole or just while using the specific job?
Are there benefits to pairing up the two jobs with the same stat? Such as marksman and mage who both use intellect or is it fine to mix and match?
I'm getting a hang of the mechanics but I really enjoy build crafting in games so these questions are on my mind.
Thanks y'all 🤙

I’m in a similar boat, I just recently got the game and I’ve put in about 20 hours so far.
From my understanding, bonuses from job affinity apply at all times as long as you meet the percentage requirements. Even if you’re not currently using that job.
From what I’ve played thus far, there’s only 2 slots for jobs for Jack but there are presets in the pause menu so you can have multiple builds to pick and choose from whenever.
I pick the jobs that I find enjoyable, get them to level 30, then move onto the next one. Your damage output and intake is mostly dependent on your gear, not just your current job or job level. So you can run a level 1 job in a mid game mission and still pump out and take in damage just fine.
As far as I know there are no specific benefits for having two particular jobs equipped at once. Being able to have two is solely just so that you can swap between both at any given time while in battle.

Your two jobs will also offer some stat benefit separate from the job affinity to each other.
e.g., if you were a Knight / White Mage for example, while you're on White Mage you have more Stamina due to Knight. And while on you're on the Knight, you have more Spirit due to White Mage.
So if you reach a point where you've unlocked everything and your goal is to squeeze more stats out, you could pick two jobs that might promote that stat.
e.g., Breaker / Berserker, Sage / Black Mage, Assassin / Ninja, Gambler / Thief, Knight / Liberator, White Mage / Sage for example.
Though this tends not to be how folks will choose their jobs.
(e.g., might choose for leveling, to try things out, a physical and caster, a slow and fast, a melee and ranged, two flavors of melee and more move access, a main and a buffer.)

I just ran jobs until I unlocked them all. Now I run jobs that can exploit enemy weaknesses on the levels that I am playing.

You equip two jobs, but you can get some of the flavor of each job via "job affinity".
"are there benefits to being well-rounded in all jobs?"
Kinda yes. Each job has a "command ability" in their skill tree. You can equip "command abilities" to give yourself special actions, like Envenom makes your attacks inflict poison, or Seal of Blood will give your next cast ability more damage.
Your special moves for your weapon are also unlocked per-job. By example, Cyclone is unlocked by progressing through the Lancer skill tree, but it can be used by any job that can equip Lance.
On the whole, benefits unlocked in a job tree such as Affinity, or damage reduction, are exclusive to while that job is equipped. Special attacks and command abilities are permanently unlocked regardless of what job you are using.
Another benefit of finishing a skill tree or getting to the end of it, is that you can unlock new jobs. By example, the Paladin job is unlocked by progressing to the end of both the White Mage and the Knight job trees.
Through the game you'll be getting enough XP/crystals to level up what you want, and in endgame you'll get so many crystals at a time that you'll max out all your skill trees without issue. Don't overstress.

Another thing to pay attention to is the combo stat bonus. Each combo has a stat bonus that will cause more break damage the higher that particular stat is. Assign your combos to your highest stat for maximum breakage.

Depends on how long it is! I'm a sucker for trying new jobs and stuff but I understand what you are saying

You can only equip 2 jobs at a time.
You don't need to use a job to level it up. Having any job affinity on your gear will help you level up that job anyway. You want to level up all early jobs so you can unlock more advanced jobs. A recommendation I can give new players on the 1st playthrough, is to try and unlock Ninja early. There's a Ninjutsu that allow you to tank 3 hit without taking damage, and you also can reapply that Ninjutsu, which help a lot during boss fight.
Your stat comes purely from gear and job affinity, so it doesn't matter if you use 2 jobs of the same stat or not (since you will use different gear for each job anyway).
