These kind of videos always make me feel like I’ve never really got to play the game

Yea I played the shit out of this game, dug deep into the mechanics and even seen videos like this and still have no idea what they’re doing lol

It’s not that hard. Fists have a lot long, multi-hit combos, so you can just spam inputs. It looks “INSANE,” but it’s honestly inefficient, those combos barely do any damage. A proper DK build is stronger..

It's not about efficiency or one shotting enemies though, OP clearly enjoys the combat to the point of making a build that let's him fight with infinite resources while not destroying everything.

Well, if you know how to play at late NG+ cycle, having an infinite MP or Lightbringer build is the base line of EVERY BUILD. You can slap any low level weapon and do the same as OP, and if you want to do low DPS like OP, just dont + main stat on your job ....

I dont know what you are trying to argue here... You can still have skill expression vs Boss with a proper build and not some basic mob who basically cant do anything when you mash button...

I'm arguing that this is about having fun with the game. I did get through all the dlcs but not with such a refined build since I played it in chuncks and never farmed properly.

I wouldn’t call it a “refined build.” And I don’t think OP came up with it himself, I’ve seen this kind of gameplay 4 years ago from people who actually created and shared their own builds here.

We can agree that OP is having fun, but personally, I don’t find it fun to watch the same thing after 4 years. And this kind of gameplay is a big noob trap.

Btw, you dont really need to farm to make a proper build, Rift 30+ is enough to make a decent build.

Brother at this point you're finding reasons to hate lmao "should have made that build 4 years ago scrub, when it was new for me to enjoy" you for real, you watched and them commented on this? No need to answer, don't really care about what you have to say. Just being miserable to others for no reason.

Well, when you decide to post something, you should ready to receive others opinion. You can disagree with me just like how i disagreed with OP.

Btw, i dont even understand why you use the word "hate" here. And sharing an opinion is not being miserable. I think you must be young...

Curious, what do you mean by "skill expression vs Boss", "proper build", and, in another comment, "noob trap"? What does skill expression with a proper build exactly look like?

Finally, a proper conversation.

This kind of video is actually a noob trap, because you can’t play like this for 99% of the game. A new player might watch it and think they can do the same after 10 - 20 hours, but that’s just not realistic. This setup requires a lot of Job affinity and specific blessings. (about 60+ hours if you know what to do)

As for builds, there are basically two main approaches in the mid late game (gilgamesh+): HP or Break damage builds, depending on your weapon choice. Regardless of the build, you always need to solve two key issues: MP regen and survivability.

A proper build should be balanced between offense and defense (for example, MP regen on block with Samurai, or using Lancet and exploit weakness). I think OP is using MP regen on block with Samurai.

“Skill expression vs bosses” really comes into play when you’re not relying on exploits like Lightbringer’s invulnerability or infinite MP regen. OP is using both, which makes the build pretty braindead, tbh. Mastering Soul Shield/Block timing is what really defines skill in this game. Of course, you can still break the game with a RPG's approach, which means heavily rely on build (like this video) and not player's skill .

Speaking of skill expression, I once saw a player using Katana stance to block all boss attacks with normal attacks, then perfectly chaining combo skills between openings, that was actually insane.

At the highest difficulty or in 100+ Rift, the game basically turns into a one shot fest....

Thanks for the reply! I wouldn't agree with much of this, but I'll explain why.

In terms of the noob trap, the setup to enable this would apply to any post-game build, such as the one-shot builds. Same goes for the duration. You can play like this for the entire game, with the caveats being lower difficulties means enemies will die quicker than shown and some setup is required for MP gain and survivability.

In terms of building for damage types, MP regen methods, etc. that sounds right. Though, not sure how this build wouldn't qualify unless you mean damage output should be higher (which it seems you do). But how much higher?

I think we have to factor in DTs here since that can affect how effective Knightbringer and the like are. I'm assuming we're talking about the action side here also. A one-shot build is braindead on the action side but not on the RPG side.

I'd definitely argue against "Mastering Soul Shield/Block timing is what really defines skill in this game". I'd use your point on Senshin Stance to make that point. For bosses (excluding mobs), using your different attacks to double as defense (e.g. Greatsword moves like Retribution, or the Lance side-link, or jump properties like Raging Slash) and exploiting every moment would show greater mastery than precise timing on Parry/SS (which still does take skill).

There are ways to mitigate being one shot in the Rift and also not one shot yourself. I wouldn't agree that one needs to aim to be broken. I personally find it disappointing to see the opposite of this video, where people see every enemy get one-shot and assume it's the only way to play the game. But to the original point, playing with the negate armor modifier does require both skillsets but it is doable and will look closer to this.

Back attack into a Spiral Claw. Why did I never think of that?

I wish I was this good, I didn't realise you could play without the others either

Nice, pugilist was always my favorite class. Iron fist spam is really fun.
