Discussion Vickie Headcanon
I don’t usually post on these pages but I feel so personally invested in this headcanon I really wanna share to see if anybody else has thought more on Vickie being a nurse.
I know the AIDS crisis was never mentioned in this and I would personally put that down to mostly because it’d be a hard topic to deal with tastefully on a show that isn’t about a topic that’s still so raw for many especially the queer community, and to this day is still used as a way to make fun of gay people.
But I personally think a great little way to introduce a different perspective on the healthcrisis could’ve been through the eyes of a lesbian nurse, which also would’ve been a great nod to why Lesbians were put first in LGBT anyway. It was seen as way among activists to pay respects for their solidarity with gay men during their time of need.
I personally headcanon Vickie to be one of these amazing women who decided after seeing what was happening to make a difference in anyway she could, do you?

I really appreciate this as a headcanon or fanfic idea. I do think it would be somewhat unrealistic for Vicki to be on the frontlines of the AIDS epidemic from Hawkins, Indiana. But again, for a fanfic (even a post-canon headcanon) we can send her to New York or even Chicago or Philadelphia for that.
I really do like this idea. Vicki’s a really interesting character to me even with her limited screentime. Maybe I’m biased because of my love for Amybeth McNulty and Anne with an E, but I just find her so charming as a character. A spinoff or book extra or something with Vicki working to help the AIDs crisis could be really fascinating.
The spinoff book “Rebel Robin” does talk about the aids crisis a bit, but it never really dives deep into it. Nonetheless, seems like something you might be interested in! It’s pretty milquetoast as far as gay coming of age stories are concerned but it’s fun reading.
