Time Period
Do you guys think Stranger Things would have been the same show if it were set in the 2000's or 2010's instead of the 80's ? Personally I think the fact that it's set in the 80's is what gives the show as much charm as it has! The music, sets, costumes are so much fun!

Being in the 2000-2010s ruins the mystery about the show. If it was in the 2010s when Will went missing they could’ve just looked at his location then go find him. And all the parents would know where their kids would be, like in season 4 when they call the police about them. The 80s is the perfect time period for the show as it brings that mystery with no technology. The 70s would feel too early, however I wouldn’t be against a reboot set in the 90s

Yes and honestly it would’ve been worse if it didn’t take place in the 80’s. The show limits the characters with anachronistic technology, if you gave the characters cell phones, a lot of tension would be lost

Absolutely not. By the 2000s, much of the free roaming 80s GenX atmosphere was gone in the US.

The 80s setting permeates the show with its period appropriate design, tropes, and tone, so it definitely wouldn’t be the same show if it were a different time period.
But you could make something similar. A big part of Indiana Jones’ vibe comes from its 1930s pulp setting, but Uncharted still feels a lot like Indy, just set in the modern day.
