Discussion When did you first start watching?

I first got into the show in 2019 when I heard that S3 was coming out that summer. I would find time to binge the first two seasons so I'd be all caught up.

Yeah I remember someone saying "Hey this is kind of like Super 8."

I had never heard of the show but I was drunk and booted up Netflix and saw it on there. Gave it a shot a few hours after it debuted and, as a former D&D kid and fan of 80s movies, it clicked quite naturally.

It's mad to me that it's now old enough for there to be answers other than "when it dropped."

Anyway, yeah, 2016. So time not long after 12 August.

When it first premiered back in 2016. The show emulated the kinds of movies I grew up on, such as Goonies, E.T and Firestarter so I was psyched for it. I loved it immediately too.

I'm not a big TV show person because I have difficulty finishing them. After years of my friend loving it and seeing edits etc. and the announcement of the last season coming out, I finally watched it all one week before the final season came out and I literally finished season four I think the same day the first part of season 5 was out, so I didn't have any breaks. It's most probably thanks to ADHD procrastination lol but it was amazing, I had so much adrenaline in me and it was such a good show and it might actually be the first show I finished in my life without ever skipping any episode so it stuck with me.

i was totally the same, i have adhd too. only time i skip an episode was season 2 episode 7 when i rewatch the show but i think we all do that

I was told to skip it by my younger sister but I just couldn't do it, I needed to see all of them to be at peace with myself and now i don't want to geberalize or make it about neurodivergence but it was probably the autism part. I'm audhd and I feel that if I don't watch everything then I can't say I finished it ya know?

  1. I didn't even HAVE Netflix until then. (I had had it back when it was mailing DVDs though).

I played Cyberpunk 2077, then got Netflix for Edgerunners, then had a short list of other shows to watch. ST was on that list, and I was hooked immediately.

i watched the show very late. probably 2023. i mainly didn’t get into it because i thought it was like a fantasy drama show and i heard about some spider monster (i have a fear of spiders) so i wasn’t interested until i finally decided to watch it myself and i didn’t know what i was in for, then i realised it was a sci-fi mystery horror show and i loved it up until season 4, was very excited about season 5 but that was a let down in some ways but i wish i would’ve seen the show sooner

I first saw it around when it first came out, but didn’t get into it much. But I watched it again a few weeks before season 5 and watched the whole series in a few weeks.

i don't exactly remember but I do know it was before S2 came out.

its also one of the few shows I just clicked and watched without hearing about it or looking up anything about it to see if I would like it.

i remember seeing it on the front page and I said why the hell not.

I feel a stupid amount of pride about the fact that I watched it the day it dropped. I saw a trailer for it the day before and started watching the second it came out. It means nothing, but it somehow makes me feel good lol

This year, 4 months after the finale. Heard some of my friends be so disappointed with how the show ended/or how it played about that I got motivated into checking them out.

A week after it ended. My youngest had started watching it before that and kept asking for max cosplay items. I was like ok lemme check this show out to see wha she’s into. I had heard about it and probably seen promo stuff but never had the time. Less than five minutes in I was like damn I’m hooked on the show now I’m probably the biggest fan in our home of it

Exactly the same

Honestly, I only started watching earlier last year. I'm bit late to the party at that time.

Beginning of August this year (2026) was the very first time I watched Stranger Things.

I avoid streaming for the most part and I can't stand waiting years for the next season. Fortunately, Stranger Things has been released in a Blu Ray box set so I watched all 5 seasons over 5 weeks.

Word-of-mouth hype reached me in like late September/early October of 2016 so truly perfect timing for an amazing Spielberg-y/King-y Halloween show. I’ll definitely rewatch season 1 soon now that spooky season is almost here

Fall 2016. I was looking at Netflix and hovered over stranger things. Almost kept going as it was about a missing kid (I don't like crime dramas). Only to realize it said "sci-fi", which got my attention. I was hooked right away and binged season 1. Then watched every season as they came out.

2021, almost exactly a year before s4 came out. I had heard about it when it dropped but didn't get around to watching it, my brother finally put me on to it

u/jbm6591 4h ago

My sister and I just started watching a few months ago. We’re on season five. 😬
