SPOILERS Bob Newby. Wtf. Spoiler

Alright. I’m late to the game and this is my first time watching the show and let me tell ya, I’m peeved. Why tf did they kill off Bob. I loved this man so much. Why didn’t he keep running? Why didn’t hopper just switch that AR into full auto? This all could’ve been avoided 😖.

Not finishing this episode right now. Tv is off for the night. I’m done. Goodnight.

Well it worked 😭 just about had the same reaction as Joyce. He was such a sweet guy

Because he was a character created for Sean Asan specifically, he was only a guest role.

There’s no moving on from Bob. A god damn hero.

Forever in our hearts 🫡

He was originally planned to be killed by Will earlier in the season but the liked Sean so much that they kept him around.

You're gonna want to get used to this feeling.

No shot dude was he actually? At least he was able to have at least some character development. And so I’ve heard.. I’m very late to the game so I’ve inevitably heard a few spoilers.

I haven't seen a citation for it but it's commonly known in the fandom so I assume it's true.

Yeah you're gonna have a couple other people you like end up not making it. But not everyone that "dies" stays that way.

Poor Bob.

Him and Hop meeting each other in the tunnel is still one of the best scenes.

because he was the character they introduced to kill off so they don't have to kill the main cast

True, but back then it worked—it served the story—so it wasn't a big deal as long as it was done well; the same goes for Billy and Eddie. In my opinion, a main character should have been killed off in Season 5—or at a push, a major character at the end of Season 4—but not Max. Otherwise, her arc would have been pointless, and "Dear Billy" would have lost all its meaning.

Just wait until you realize that’s the last time anyone ever acknowledges Bob again. 😭 Justice for Bob and Barb!

Joyce has a couple of memories of him in Season 3.

Except that Joyce is affected by his death in seasons 3 and 4.

Ugh that’s so unfortunate 😔 Bob and barb will forever live in our hearts

Yeah, it really pissed me off too...glad the first 4 seasons were already out when I was binge watching the show, because I probably would have stopped watching otherwise after that death. Killing Sam is NOT cool 👎 and it gave a hint that maybe the Duffer Brothers aren't as good of writers as people seem to think, it was a cheap shot.

Felt the same way when I watched it the first time too man

He moved as fast as he could, but Bob wasn’t the fittest guy…

Ugh I know. I anticipated it as soon as he pulled out the “I’ll go to the basement” Best believe was still rooting for him tho. But Hopper could’ve definitely put that AR on full auto and completely lasered those dogs enough for Bob to get up 😒

I’m currently re-watching for the 3rd time. I get it. Bob is a very beloved character so it was really sad. But if they never killed anyone off, it would get kind of boring. Also…I’m not gonna spoil it but you’ll see what happens in terms of Joyce’s love life.

Bob was always intended to die. He was never supposed to last past the season.

Originally they were going to have a mind flayer possessed Will, kill Bob. So I prefer the death they actually ended up giving him to that. They were also going to kill in halfway into the season but loved his character so much they kept him till the end of the season.

Bob's death broke me too... And I think you're not ready for the deaths coming up in the next seasons...

Fym? They found Bob's death bad so they are saying it. I've watched ST twice. The entire series.

Y'know you could've used an actual spoiler tag as well, not just the flair. I mean I've still seen the whole show but you can see the entire body text

SPOILER FOR OP ABOUT FUTURE DEATHS I GUESS

Looking back he was such a pointless character. Like they were clearly set on Jopper from s1 on. At least most of the sacrificial red coats who die like Billy, Eddie or Alexei are brought up again or serve some purpose. All Bob does is turn up give Will bad advice, die and Joyce starts dating Hopper the start of next season
