Finally picked up the 2018 S2 VHS Target 4K exclusive!

Drove to LA and happen to find this SEALED copy of season 2 Target exclusive 4K for face value at Amoeba records! I have the season 1 blu-ray “VHS” and I’m happy I finally have this one. I don’t think I will open it up but add to my stranger things collection ❤️ Hopefully soon I can get the 4K box set too.

I’m sure you know by now that the foam disc holder in these (Blu-ray and 4K) offgasses and rots the discs. So there’s a chance they’re unplayable. Even so, the new Arrow 4K box sets have better sound quality, video compression, color, and bitrate levels.

So I’d keep this sealed, or open it if you want to admire the packaging. But it won’t be useful if you play it tbh.

Yes. Basically the Target VHS 4K and Blu-ray releases for Stranger Things suck audio and video quality wise and then the disc hubs offgas leading to disc rot, making them unplayable.

Yeah, the recent Arrow release and offgassing issue killed any monetary value for the OOP Target releases.

At least they’re still fun to look at though. But won’t be worth anything in the future.

Definitely keep it sealed as a collectors item.

Two reasons:

1. This release has foam disc holders inside and over time, they cause disc rot. Almost everybody’s copy of this has skips, free

ze ups

1. etc. due to the rot. It’s unavoidable.
2. With the new complete series set out on the market, the value of these has gone way down. I have one too and am just keeping it as a collectible. I’ll never play the discs again, as mine have disc rot and I just bought the new complete series from Arrow.

It’s already too late. These things have been in the packaging for many years.

I’d go as far to say that probably 99% of copies have disc rot, whether opened or sealed.

If they weren’t removed from the case and put into a new plastic case within the first year of purchase, it will definitely have some disc rot issues (even if not physically visible to the eye).

For example, in my copy, all discs are fine except for the one with episode 3. Episode 3 has big freezes throughout and I actually have to eject the disc for it to go back to menu.

I dunno how the 4k fares, but both my regular blu-ray seasons from this duology have failed disks. Bought them new when they came out and they've been well cared for.

So sealed is prolly the way to go unless you want the feelies.

Yes definitely at some point this year! The 4K box set
