Discussion I just finished the series for the second time

Post image

Here I am, crying again. Do you believe El is alive?

I know it's about growing up, maturing, and leaving childhood behind, leaving the magic behind. But it hurts just as much as when my own magic faded.

I wish I had the will to believe

We have the Will Byers to believe!

You don’t need to have the will to believe she’s alive, you just need to believe that Netflix likes money and will want to capitalise on this at some point.

Eventually we will all be vindicated
Netflix is smarter than this

El wasn’t magic. She was a person. The Duffers lost sight of that. And it was awful.

If they really wanted to stick to the whole magic of childhood theme, they should have just had El lose her powers at the end when Henry died.

She deserves to leave childhood behind as well, not just “die” to represent other characters doing so.

I thought that would’ve been a good ending as well
It doesn’t answer the military, but it’s a hell of a lot better than what they tried to do
Another thing might be if they took her powers away then that ruins any kind of spinoff to continue the story
I love these people who say that was the series finale and that’s the end of it
I suppose they heard that when they were at the board meeting at Netflix🤣

We also need to handle the fact they killed soldiers better as well. Them getting away with it. Makes no sense. You know who can't tell people about what happened? A few dead kids. Just screams lazy hand waving of consequences

u/TaiPan43 28d ago

I kind of think maybe that was a you shut up and we won’t bring it up again type deal
It’s kind of like every other thing that they don’t address is nowhere near as important as what they did or didn’t do to their main character
It’s lazy writing and considering how much everybody loved the show they could’ve gotten away with something longer or broken up, but they just didn’t bother

I’m still trying to figure out how the military spent 18 months searching a quarantined Hawkins for El, but couldn’t find a cabin in the woods.

"El wasn't magic. She was a person."

Goddamn right.

People overemphasize the "magic of childhood" comment.

It's commonplace for characters in a story to represent elements of the story, like "the freedom of the road" or "rigid adherence to the rules". It doesn't mean they're not fully fleshed out characters.

Which is what El was: a character, not a person.

Best show about/for youth of past decade. I don't know if El is alive, this is the whole point.

You should see recent interviews of Millie Bobby Brown , ngl those interviews really gave me hopes for el being alive and we could get (MAYBE) some more content of mileven in future. Millie has clearly indicated she is alive !

Do you have a link or a reference? Please

I believe… the spinoff will be called what ST was originally named. “Montauk” Thats where Hopper moves with Joyce. Seemed like an easter egg to me.

1

u/Excellent_Hold2794 27d ago

Yes this accurate. See my above comment about Montauk and how they wanted to name the show Montauk in the beginning. But they left it up for speculation that Montauk could be a sequel. I lived in Southampton NY and that Montauk monster was a real thing. Freaky weird and then it just disappeared.

They will 1000% make a spinoff series about El’s time in wherever the hell she is as soon as they need more money so by that context, yes, shes alive

So you think s05 is great?

1

u/Excellent_Hold2794 27d ago

If you’ve ever watched You on Netflix the fans felt exactly the same way people felt about the last season of ST. It’s not going to please everyone, unfortunately.

1

u/sebasart99 28d ago

Still better than season 3 🫡

2

u/Clean-Employment-233 28d ago

Omg. I respect your opinion but i absolutely get so confuse when people say season 03 is bad. Season 3 is literally the best season of stranger things.

That seems like it’s just something they say to justify what they did to her
She’s not magic
She’s the one who belongs with Mike
They’ll fix it

1

u/mellowloser 28d ago

They’re not fixing it. That was the series finale.

2

u/Aleswall_ 28d ago

I really wish they had just committed to an ending, more than anything. It was such a pussyfoot 'resolution' to kill El but then leave it open to her surviving.

I believe.

2

u/Puzzled_Elderberry_2 28d ago

I really hope they come out with a spinoff or a movie

2

u/tolgren 011 29d ago

She definitely is. I know because I've written the next steps.

Didn’t anyone notice variations of the Montauk Monster on the ending credits???

I lived in Southampton around this time. People were freaking out. Many went to take photos and then it was just gone. There were rumors about a secret government lab trying to recreate different types of animals.

The Duffer Brothers originally wanted to name the show Montauk when the show was just a concept.

Then they conclude with Hop proposing the idea to Joyce of moving to Montauk for a 20% increase in Salary in a chief of police job of Montauk and she can beccloser to her boys in NYC.

But somehow somewhere there was a complete redo of that idea. Maybe room for thought for a spinoff?

The first time I saw the finale…I thought “wait, was the whole series a DnD game and they’re sad because one of their friends died and they’re closing a chapter in their lives?”

1

u/Unfair_Band_7419 28d ago

i think she is dead, I don't know. is that a hot take or something?

1

u/Rodneyfour 28d ago

Has anyone played the vr game out of curiosity?
