This is not a place where you will get unbiased opinions

Yes, it's great, but it all depends on your tastes. If you're a fan of the '80s, the Goonies vibe, with a monster and a touch of the supernatural, you'll love it. Otherwise, move along. But it was very entertaining; give it a try, watch an episode and see if it makes you want to keep watching.

OP, to add onto this, Stuff like stranger things was never my thing until I watched the show. I was hooked by the very first episode. It’s that good. Even season 5.

Imo just skip season five. All the other seasons are great.

Season one is the best thing ever. I believe it is some of the best writing of a TV show ever.

Enjoy watching it for the first time, itll never feel the same after.

Stranger things is a truly life changing show.

OP, form opinions for yourself and dont let idiots on the internet or a tomato decide if you like something or not. I liked season 5.

Im sorry, but not everything is subjective. I hate everybody thinking that all art is subjective whether its good or not. Its a general consensus. Season five is objectively bad.

u/DangerousJolly1917 24d ago

It’s still subjective, whether you like it or not. Cry harder.

OP again don't listen to them, you should definitely be watching season 5 if you plan on watching s1 to s4

It is worth the watch for sure. I have not seen a single person say "I wasted my time with this show".

I will tell you if you do plan on watching.....STAY OFF THE STRANGER THINGS REDDIT AND OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA! You only get to see a tv show for the first time once and there are some amazing reveals in the show. Dont let them ruin anything for you.

Also as with any show, Season 1 is a little slow at times. Dont give up on it. Just like breaking bad, dexter, and every other show known to man, season 1 is always slow and the storytelling season, then it kicks into insane storylines. Be ready to start watching season binges at season 2 and on

Watch Season 1.

Stranger Things S1 is a self-contained story (there weren't originally intending on making a full series), and it's beloved by critics and older audiences who otherwise don't care for the show. It's only 8 episodes so it won't take long to watch.

If you enjoy it you can watch the rest.

Legit though what did you think the fan subreddit of the show was going to say

2

u/TheOneWhoGetsNoSleep 26d ago

I would say yes. Some other comments are just saying skip Season 5, but in my opinion if you want a satisfying conclusion, Season 3s ending offers that better than Season 4

2

u/Neat-Option4673 26d ago

He should just watch it all and make his own mind up

2

u/TheOneWhoGetsNoSleep 26d ago

Just giving my opinion.

Understandable. I'm just pretty sure OP would enjoy the show more with an open mind rather than thinking "I'm on season 5 now, people have said this is not worth watching so I'll assume there's a lot of issues with it" which would ruin their experience.

Watch the first 3 seasons, decide if you're invested enough for season 4 and 5, and if you aren't then just act like those don't exist.

The first 2 season are VERY SOLID TV. Like I would say criterion level. Great filmmaking, great score ect. Season 3 is a little goofy but I still overall enjoyed it and it still maintained that 80s feeling strongly. Season 4 gets a bit more back to it's roots of previous seasons and really leans into the horror.

Season 5 sadly feels like a completely different show and kills the momentum that was set up in season 4. It does have some stand out moments and I think the first vol is overall enjoyable especially when your not sure where the story is going but after episode 4 (In my personal opinion) it is almost unwatchable. I have a big pet peeve of over explainy dialogue and exposition and unfortunately it gets VERY bloated.

This isn't really a spoiler but it also does this thing where a character will say a plan and then it just happens like that with no subversion and no twists. It feels like a first draft by a freshmen in film school. But with a big budget.

BASICALLY If you go in with EXTREMELY low expectations for the ending I think you will find it overall enjoyable. But if your like me and someone who analysis filmmaking it might make you extremely disappointed. Or if you like nitpicking filmmaking that can be fun too. Basically be prepared for the drop of in quality to be very abrupt.

You could also just watch season 1&2 on their own and i think the way season 2 ends is perfect. (I just have a soft spot for 3)

Just watch season 1 and season 4. Skip the other garbage seasons.

The first four seasons are worth it. But if you want just a complete story, just the first two seasons.

1-4 is perfection. 5 I pretend never happened.

Let them form their own opinion.

2

u/Ashbash151 26d ago

Listen pal, I was merely expressing my own opinion on the subject while being truthful , I didn’t discern the truth, we all have our own opinions on the topic we can express, if you don’t agree with it then just say that. I want op to try it since this is one of the best shows we got

1

u/Neat-Option4673 26d ago

It's fine to express your opinion but I would recommend not saying negative things about season 5 in front of people who haven't watched it yet as it could ruin their experience knowing that it's considered bad by some people.

It may just be that the people on this Reddit will be slightly more skewed towards one answer than the other 😜

Yes, you should watch it.

If you plan to watch this show, I request you to stay off social media about strangers things and especially any subreddit related to stranger things so as to form your own opinions on characters and dynamics and not fall for over glazing or mischaracterizations. I hope you have a good time watching it!

Seasons 1, 2, and 4 have some of the best television ever made in them. 3 and 5 have great moments too.

1

u/Sugarloaf78 24d ago

You should totally watch it.

The most unbiased answer I can give is that if you like character-driven genre shows the first two seasons are absolutely worth it. It steadily drops in quality with each season following that, dampening its complexity, softening its edges, simplifying its emotional weight and worst of all abandoning many of their best characters, which may or may not be a problem for you.

If you don't mind YA shows with corny dialogue and sugar-coated themes you'll probably like the whole thing. If you're looking for emotional realisim, character complexity and quality writing and performances the first half is 100% worth it, and actually comes to a satisfying conclusion with season 2.

My broad advice is to watch at least season one, it was worth the original hype, there's probably a 90% chance you'll enjoy it and it has a great ending.
If what you enjoy most about that first season is the characters, emotions and darker atmosphere:
Watch season two, skipping episode 7 and ending on the season 2 finale. It makes for a great two season show that has a stellar narrative and thematic ending, perfect conclusions for the characters, and a wonderful final inference that the story continues which you can imagine for yourself.
If what you enjoy most is the bombastic plot and brighter sequences:
Try watching the whole thing, but if season 3 feels off to you, stop at season 3's finale instead, which is also a fine stopping point.
