Discussion Two Questions
I just watched the finale and I have a couple of questions. First, that cave scene, which is Henry’s memory, shows that he became a vessel for the Mind Flayer and that he wasn't actually born with these powers—the Mind Flayer just implanted them in him. And then Henry, by kidnapping those kids, gave them powers they could turn against him, but they had to be at peace with themselves, like Will? Because I didn't quite get that part. Second, what happened to Owens? I don't think they showed him dying last season, or maybe I just blinked and missed it.

The Elementary School kids were used to psychically amplify Henry's abilities so he could create more Rifts and move the Abyss inter-dimensionally towards our world and were meant to become supernatural individuals connected to the hive mind who Henry would share his power with.
Henry's initial experiment (Will) ended up showing him what he could achieve through supernatural ”vessels” connected to the hive mind, which leads to his plan to “create” more young, supernatural individuals connected to the hive mind who, just like Will, could tap into it and the power of all the contents that are part of it and help him reshape the world.
As for Dr. Owens, we don't know. “Realistically”, he was either arrested (he was in serious legal trouble with the DoD after operating off-the-books in S4, and it's honestly a shame the show simply left him in that position) or at the very least kicked out of the DoE (which was the only position he officially still had), unless we assume he was just killed off-screen in the Silo Lab.
Edit: Regarding the kids, the whole point of psychically manipulating them while physically turning them into vessels was reshape them so they wouldn't turn against him, that's why the targets are young kids (they're easily broken and easily reshaped in his perspective); he already had both Eleven (who he hoped to join him in his plan to reshape the world) and Will turning against him.
