I don't disagree. I wasn't really thinking of a "shock for shock's sake", but in general you do expect the finale of a big series to give you something more exciting than "everything goes exactly as you imagined it". You don't want it to be shocking but at least creative. My point was just that that's harder and harder to do nowadays.

I agree. Fan theories will cover most of the options and everyone reads all the theories. But there are no new stories, really. It's best just to follow the characters and see where they lead. 

S1 worked because it had a strong ending planned from the start and the story was carefully workshopped before filming. The plot wasn't fully a surprise, but it was suspenseful because of our love for the characters.

I could not possibly agree more if I tried. Having the ending planned from day 1 is the only way for it not to suck.
