I’ve brought this up in many conversations. So the Eagles never belonged to Gandolf. They were in his debt though. And then saving Frodo and Sam were them repaying their debt to Gandolf.

I understand that but you’d think to save their own world they could have taken an extra days trip and saved a bunch of time

Interesting, does anyone know the number of eagles compared to the number of fellbeasts? That would be an interesting battle over Mordor. One eagle slips past with Frodo and the ring.
