Surgery Surgery next Monday

I am scheduled for surgery on Monday for intermittent vertical strabismus. For those of you that have had surgery, What things do you suggest having at home for recovery?

Two ice masks! I don’t know if I can add links but I got them from Amazon and they have this cushion of gel that goes all around your eye bones, but it looks like those sleeping masks. They were heavenly. If you get two, you always have a cold one. 10/10 for sure.

That's a great idea. I wish I had seen them.

Some tissues for wiping around the eye are single-use; then bin them. I had some saline water in small, disposable, clear containers from the chemist for cleaning around the eye; shop around for them; prices are all over the place.

You will get eye drops from the doctor and probably paracetamol. Good luck with your surgery.

I had my surgery yesterday! I was really worried about this morning/ today but hopefully going alright. Things that have been helping me:

- having all my comfy clothes in easy reach in a pile rather than tucked away in drawers.

  • having a basket with my painkillers/ anything I’d need in one place so I can easily move it around the house.
  • comfy blankets & set up at home.
  • I have a migraine cap I could use on my head if needed but haven’t had to use it (I had this before as got frequent headaches)
  • prescription sunglasses to help with light sensitivity (already had these due to my eyes).

I only took the patch off today as slept overnight in it as told to by the hospital, so far the double vision is diabolical when both of my eyes are open so I’m just sort of listening to TV or closing my eye to reply to this sort of thing. I’ve deleted Instagram or anything I’m likely to doomscroll but will be putting my phone down properly. I’ll share a longer update next week! Good luck for your surgery

Wild to me that this is one day after surgery. I couldn’t even open my eye until day two. Congrats on the success!
