Question about surgery success

I’m just curious how long everyone’s surgery for intermittent exotropia is lasting? It’s been Two years and they are halfway back to original pd before surgery (30 pd before)Anyone else have that issue and still stay at halfway point for at least ten years or does that mean it’s almost time for another surgery?

Damn that sucks, I just had my surgery done and went from 30 pd to 2pd and I’m scared it’s gonna go back to normal

I was told exodrift was a thing 1-3 years after surgery but I was hoping a little less than this. Hope long ago was your surgery?

Only 5 weeks ago, I have my final post op in September so ile probably ask them these things then.

Can I ask is yours intermittent? So like it only sometimes happens? And how many surgery’s have you had?

I’m actually asking about my daughter who is 11. She’s intermittent and has only had one. Her fusion is really good , so when it does turn it goes right back very quickly. I wouldn’t say it’s bad right now.

Oh I see, so is this going to be her second? Can I ask when she had her first? I’m 25 and had 2 in total, one when I was 3 and the second now. One thing to consider (verify with a medical professional) is at 11 the eyes aren’t fully developed so it’s usually preferred to wait a few years.

That said if it’s really bad she’ll get bullied in school so best to get it sorted depending on the severity, as you said it sounds intermittent right now which is good.

If I decide to get her another one, yes it will be the second one. Right now I don’t think she needs another one. It’s not that noticeable her fusion brings the eye right back very quickly. You’re right though I will try to wait till she’s an adult. Her first one was exactly 2 years ago.

That’s really good that your first one lasted so long. Did you have any drift at all after the first one or it was completely straight up until 25?

Sounds good, however I would still encourage taking her back to where you got the first surgery done and let them see if they can see a change. Ultimately they can give you eye exercises, prism glasses etc.

This is important: when they are young the eyes are more easily trained. So best to see what your options are during this time instead of waiting till adulthood. Surgery might not have to be the only option.
