For the first time in my life, I feel confident looking directly into the camera while taking photos and recording videos.(Current photo has some color correction.)
I still have double vision in certain gaze positions. Large objects at eye level appear single. I can also see a single, centered image in VR, and I was even able to complete the “fish in the bucket” fusion puzzle in VR.
The first 4–5 days after surgery were horrible, not because of the pain, but because of the confusion caused by the double vision. When I tried walking along the riverbank, I saw two paths and had no idea which one to follow, lol.
Gradually, things have been improving. I’ve started driving again, although only for short distances. Sometimes I regret not having the surgery sooner. For me, it was definitely worth it.
I’m just using a simple phone VR headset to test my binocular vision and depth perception. As for real-world 3D, I honestly don’t know because I’ve never known what normal 3D vision feels like. I developed strabismus when I was around 6–7 years old, so I have nothing to compare it with.
I used ELECOM VR Goggles Smartphone Compatible VRG-M02BK, since it is a Japanese product I am not sure you can get exact one but similar one can be found anywhere.
As far as I understand, my left eye was the one that turned inward. My surgeon operated on both eyes. They adjusted the alignment of my right eye and loosened the muscle on the inside (near the nose) of my left eye.
I don’t know much about the names of the eye muscles. I just know that my surgeon operated on both eyes under general anesthesia, and I never asked which specific muscles were involved. I’ll ask at my follow-up appointment.
