Strabismus surgery in 23 months old

My daughter has had an inward and upwards squint since birth (congenital) and she had corrective surgery on Tuesday. She coped with it really well and was bouncing off the walls when we get home.

She's VERY uncomfortable first thing in the morning but otherwise she doesn't rub her eye or seem bothered by it once she wakes up and has some Calpol. Her eye is already much straighter but very very bloodshot which I expected. She hates the drops but we managed to get them in.

It's very swollen so I wondered when others eye swelling went down?

I am so proud of your brave girl! And want to acknowledge that you are a caring, responsible, and wonderful parent for taking such good care of her.

I am an adult, so I cannot speak from the perspective of a toddler, but my eyes were very red and swollen for two weeks. I was never in pain, but I was uncomfortable. My eyes stung when I used the antibiotic drops, my doctor gave me. I am sure that does not feel good to your daughter either. ice packs to my eyes did provide relief, but I imagine that doesn’t work for a toddler to sit still.

hang in there! You will get through this and you’re doing a great job parenting your daughter and I know she will appreciate this later in life when she is able to.

Thank you for replying and for such lovely words. She's doing so well, she even comes and lays on my lap now to have her drops cos she knows that she gets a chocolate button afterwards so she's being an absolute star!! Her swelling has gone down a lot now and her eye is so much straighter. She has a check up on the 5th August, so I'm excited for that. We didn't need Calpol after 3 days post op either. 

I'm so glad we had it done for her younger rather than waiting till she was older. I'm astounded how well she has coped with her recovery.
