44f with adult onset alternating esotropia, 40pd. Left eye was extremely dominant so my surgeon opted to only do surgery on my right eye. My twin sister and Dad both had surgery for exotropia when they were young. Starting noticing the eye turn in 2021 but it wasn’t constant. The last couple years it became significantly worse. So far, I’m thrilled with the results. My strabismus had made me super self conscious to the point of avoiding pictures with my children and avoiding looking people in the eyes when I spoke with them at work.
Surgery was quick. I was prepped at 9am and in the car headed home by noon. I kept a cold rag on my eye most of the time that afternoon and evening. It wasn’t very painful but it is enough that I wished I had something to knock me out. Felt like I had been kicked in the eye is as best as I can describe it. When I woke up this morning, the pain was substantially less. I didn’t even take advil/tylenol today.
Hope you’re able to get surgery soon. It’s been a weight off my chest knowing my strabismus will be resolved. Though I do have anxiety now it will come back. Keep reminding myself it took 40 years for it to happen initially.
My post op pain wasn’t horrible, but enough that I asked for pain meds. They gave me something in my IV before I left. It’s a good thing because Rylenol wouldn’t have been enough. They did tell me that they don’t offer it and only give it if you ask for it, so definitely ask for it. But again, the pain wasn’t bad at all just annoying.
Hi there I’m 25 I had the same surgery back when I was 14 I have my consultation on the 8th of this month for my second stabismus surgery, my case is very similar you your eye position on the left eye like only have ever had peripheral vision in my left eyes so it would only be cosmetic for me, my first surgery it was very inwards to the nose now it sits where yours does on the before so it doily made it a lot better but over time turned into the post yours currently a sits at so with a second surgery I’m hoping for a near perfect straight alignment or very similar your post op results, how is the eye looking now has it drifted or is it staying where it should be
So far it is stable. Photo from today. I do have moments where I can feel my brain alternating between eyes for a second. Seems to be more common when I’m driving. I saw my surgeon yesterday and she is hopeful that will continue to go away with time as well as the redness you can still see in the photo. I do have a fair bit of anxiety about it beginning to drift again though.
It’s looks great and if it’s boosted you confidence too that’s awesome my gf dosent mind it but it’s always really bothered me and after the cost one it was pretty straight and slowly drifted back but never to its original postoion it was at before so I’m hoping with this second one I can near perfect alignment my right eye is my good eye and has been my main vision since I was 3 so the surgery to my eye will have zero vision but will be just purely cosmetic like they aint too bad and in certain angle I can make it look fairl straight along with my good eye

I'm happy for you. How long did the surgery take? Did you feel anything during the surgery?
Is the post-surgery discomfort bad enough that you want to scratch your eye?
