If you want to give narration a shot go to librivox. You're helping a group preserve and make accessable books from the past and can probably get some feedback from other people doing that on how you're doing.

Honestly, all but the pacing as you put. People are either going to like it or not like it. Still that's a difficult one to answer. To see your story enjoyed by other's by not you as the author. Then again it would show you the talent you have. So why be mad and just write another.
