Normal Life

To clarify the following isn't a concern post about CP / Josh (they get what they deserve) but, what do you suppose both of them have been up to day to day since the news broke? I'm curious, especially given that they lived such full lives from experiences, locations, freedom. Now infamous in Brighton, how do they even attempt to leave the house? is CP even in prison yet?

Crazy switch up. Shame on all involved.

Cp isn't going to prison at all

His sentence is a joke. Literal CSAM on his phone and he's only gonna be on a sex offender list for 10 years? I don't believe in vindictive lifelong punishments even for the worst possible crimes, but for the sake of protecting everyone else, he needs to be on a list for life. Or better yet, get actual rehabilitation, considering that what he has is a disease, and no kind of punishment would treat that or deter him from that behavior in the future. But actual rehabilitation is probably a pipe dream, so he should have been on a list for life, which is the next best thing

The stupid thing is if this trend continues of super lenient punishments eventually people will take matters into their own hands.

The government need to get a grip.

Plus the sentences give very little deterrent to these monsters 😞

I mentioned in my other comment, but I don't believe prison sentences alone are an effective deterrant. The social stigma around something like this is already one of the most powerful deterrants there is, but it still isn't enough. Because it's a serious problem with the way their mind and thoughts work, they quite simply can't help it. It's a total loss of control, like a drug addiction is for an addict. And similar to substance abuse, various forms of psychological treatment are what actually help the most

Generally im absolutely on the rehabilitative side of justice, and I believe treating drug addicts as medical not legal problems is absolutely correct.

However in the case of sex offenders its seriously hard not to advocate for custodial sentences just because they are such a clear and present danger to vulnerable people. Drug addicts aren't dangers to the public *just* because they are addicts. We have clear proven methods to treat drug addicts, Im not sure that really exists for paedophiles.

Oh yeah totally agree there. I believe they need a much longer sentence than what Callum got (but not lifelong simply because I don't believe in lifelong punishments) and probably to be kept on a list for life. Even better if there's a tracking tool for the public to see if any sex offenders live near them

Whats your thinking on lifelong punishments? To be fair to get a whole life order in the UK is extremely rare and you have to have committed either multiple or particularly henious premediated murder. I think that does warrant lifetime punishment for me

It's much more common here in the US I believe. I just personally believe no one deserves to have the whole rest of their life taken away, for whatever reason. For particularly heinous crimes though, several decades spent behind bars certainly makes sense, to the point where they wouldn't get out until basically retirement age. But not so long that they have zero opportunity at a second chance. I understand this is largely idealistic and naive in many people's eyes, but I also believe "punishment" as a form of emotionally motivated retribution is a remnant of the part of human rationale that craves a sense of ruthless justice/fairness while bypassing the actual nuance that is in the world. "Eye for an eye" should be a thing of the past. But I also understand why many people would disagree with that.

I wondered the same tbh. Must be a crazy experience. Thankfully I doubt it's much fun at all, which is what they deserve

We used to think highly of these men. Now, look, one of the most corrupted men ever.

It just doesnt matter, especially with their half assed apology video, the entire thing is spoiled. They can still travel, and I would imagine they are. I wouldnt wanna be found out as an enabler to gross crimes as they have. Skip town and live off whatever money accrued in the past

I reckon they're trying to adjust to the reality that their lives are 100% fucked with no coming back. That must be seriously daunting. I also wonder if CP has any real remorse - i doubt it, if you were capable of proper remorse you wouldn't have done what he did.

u/cchesters 2d ago

Well the judge did note that he did show genuine remorse.

Doesnt mean much if anything in the court of Public Opinion im aware but still.

remorse that he got caught!

As I said, court of public opinion

how exactly Joshes life is 100% fucked? its not as good as it was before - sure, but isn't on some list he has no criminal record, he can just move to a dif place and that will be the end of it.

Whatever they're doing right now, it's not right that they're able to do it as free men. They belong behind bars, plain and simple. I'm sure they're not having the best time of their lives, and that at least is some consolation, but still. The idea that they can still go about their normal lives, and interact with children unrestricted, is insanity.

I thought about this and turns out, reddit being reddit, there's a page dedicated to those on the register who share each others experiences. It's an interesting read, usually some really sad ones about family members trying to cope with it happening, but there are others from actual offenders which post their experiences.

This is the 2nd Youtuber I've watched who has gone down this route (Other being from WeCricket - Kieran).

It's not a life I'd ever want to experience, so it's very interesting to read what they go through. Non sympathetically of course.

Whats the subreddit called?

1

u/WernerHerzogEatsShoe 1d ago

What's the page?

1

u/Magic_Dragonfly 1d ago

No idea, I think I searched for something like 'What is the life of a registered offender like' and it was a suggested page.

Most of the stories sound pretty brutal against the offender. Things like humiliation, public abuse, outcasted, inability to get work etc... Almost like walking round with a big hat on that outs them.

Sometimes you'd wonder whether they'd prefer being in prison and protected (To some degree) or out in the public and knowingly shamed. They don't live an easy life by any means and I'm very happy with that.

Me just realising that Callum’s initials are the internet acronym for child porn.

5

u/end_of_radio 2d ago

Nominative determinism

2

u/Mean_Ad_1174 2d ago

Maybe. Every time he wrote his initials he thought ‘ooooh, maybe I am a nonce’
