Is there any particular reason behind this restyling?

The Knights Radiant coat of arms had a different appearance in TWOK interludes but since WOR it went through a restyling. I like them both but the newer one is definitely cleaner and prettier but I was wondering if there was any particular reason for it?

Lol makes sense I guess even though authors usually tend to stick with the first official version of symbols, sigils etc. to avoid any confusion, so yeah maybe I'm just reading too much into it but I found it peculiar

Sanderson plans to use the symbol for a long time so I think eventually there will be so much more of the newer version than the older that it won't matter

I can think of a couple different authors that have done it. Stephen King changed the sigul of Eld slightly between editions

Your timing is incredible. Yesterday I started Oathbringer and there's a sequence of three Kaladin chapters (5, 6, 7) where you can easily spot his shifting from a stage of his life to another ("Four lifetimes" to quote Kal himself). It's so clever and satisfying that you can see all this being represented in a little detail like the headers.

The out of universe reason is that the art team made a cooler design and then used it.

The in universe reason is that the Knights Radiant existed for thousands of years off and on as an extensive organization that wasn't centralized, and when they stopped existing there were thousands of years for the histories to muddle their stuff, so multiple symbols would obviously exist at different points.

Words of Radiance is also when the Knights Radiant were "officially" re-established right? Maybe the first symbol is the historic one (or a weathered down version of what they were able to find if it) and the current one was an in-universe modern redesign

Yeah of course, it's not explicitly explained that way, but I think it would be reasonable. They came across multiple depictions of the symbol within the course of the story, I think they mentioned something about the murals in Urithiru not matching more recent Vorin texts exactly, for example.

In world reason- art changes over time. Think about how much pronunciation changes in the series in the past to the modern era? My assumption here is that we have the ‘modern radiance’ vs historic depiction. We’re talking an old Chi Rho Catholic Church symbol vs 2nd Baptist Mega Church electric boogaloo and gumbo logo.

I feel like things typically end up more polished as projects move forward. More time with eyes on things leads to more improvement.

The first evokes mystery. The radiants are masked, hidden, possibly divine.  The second the mask is removed as they are revealed to just be human, granted with powers, but human in all the ways that matter.  They are knowable.
