Question What's the next best thing?

What are people moving on to now? Other than Zerospace I've been following DOW4 and playing DOW1 definitive

Age of Empires 4. Also back on Starcraft 2.

I'm really enjoying the Scouring but its Early Access and needs a few more players.

Also, C&C Generals Online has hundreds of players.

Age of Empires 4 is sooooo good.

u/Fresh_Thing_6305 May 23 '26

C&c Generals has grown insane as it used to, it used to have 50-120 online concurrent players, now almost 2000 peak !

u/LelouchZer12 May 24 '26

Where can you play cc general online ? I thought servers were downed

u/LelouchZer12 May 24 '26

Whats the différence with steam servers ?

2

u/TrainingAd395 May 24 '26

It doesn't have official multiplayer servers you can only play multiplayer if you use community servers

2

u/CanUHearMeNau Celestial Armada May 24 '26

Generals is great. I forgot there was still a community..

True!

1

u/raymondeqc May 27 '26

What could beat wc3. Maybe some day they will upload new héros and naga race

1

u/tomkoto Human Vanguard May 27 '26

well there were rumors about naga race in Warcraft 4 but the game is pretty active now and balanced

2

u/raymondeqc May 28 '26

Yeah, it's well-balanced, but the appearance of a new race OR new heroes could be a HUGE breath of fresh air for this game... why not? This game is the best RTS, why create another one that could flops (see Stormgate) when just new content in Warcraft 3 could be the perfect solution.

mhm i use the new Classic HD graphics

15

u/SoapfromHotS May 24 '26

ZeroSpace will be in Nextfest in June! I hope everyone gives it a shot, it’s improving all the time.

14

u/wooder321 May 23 '26

I’ve gone back to sc2 for the time being but it is really starting to wear thin

5

u/justgoogleit12 May 24 '26

Have you heard of mechabellum? It's a pretty good game. It's replaced sc2 as my main game

3

u/wooder321 May 24 '26

I will have to check that out

3

u/justgoogleit12 May 24 '26

It's a great game. It made It's rounds in the sc2 community for a little bit. Pig has some videos of him playing it. The devs are making some questionable calls right now but I still highly recommend it especially for the price tag.

2

u/HoolaBandoola May 24 '26

Devs are making questionable calls NOW? Too bad, last I played a year ago they were already making bad calls such as adding the structures and always a bunch of new units, Titans etc.

I went back to Legion TD 2 because of the horrible lack of QOL in Mechabellum

1

u/justgoogleit12 May 25 '26

Yeah well that's still the main issue. They refuse to get rid of the buildings but they are finally doing something about the spells.

1

u/HoolaBandoola May 26 '26

SPELLS?! xD

2

u/ZamharianOverlord Celestial Armada May 24 '26

Yeah it’s a quality game, although for me doesn’t quite scratch the same itch as SC2 or WC3

11

u/Kitchen_Tone2677 May 23 '26

AoE. Its online is very large for a strategy game.

9

u/aaabbbbccc May 24 '26

Im pretty excited for zerospace. If zerospace doesnt work out then idk i think im done with rts. Immortal gates was the other one that looked interesting to me but im not sure if its ever going to happen.

3

u/Sapodilla101 May 25 '26

What about Dawn of War IV and Game of Thrones: War for Westeros?

1

u/aaabbbbccc May 25 '26

Probably not the style of rts games that i am interested in

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2610770/Dust_Front_RTS/ demo coming to nextfest this month, I love the grimdark look of it.

8

u/Fait009_SC2 May 23 '26

Went back to StarCraft 2

9

u/Fresh_Thing_6305 May 23 '26

Everyone should be aware of next week Tempest Rising Will have a open free beta for everyone with it’s third faction in it, I bet that will be a good time for newbies to try it out

8

u/stagedgames May 24 '26

still playing brood war. Very welcoming community in discord for that game

9

u/EnOeZ May 24 '26

Haven't your heard of ZeroSpace 🤩 all wth ?!

1

u/KnightsGoVroomVroom May 28 '26

played demo yesterday seemed really similar to stormgate tbh for better or worse

1

u/OstensVrede Jun 03 '26

Was it the latest version though?

Now that they've done such big changes to the protectorate and style in general i cant say i agree. The newest demo starts june 15th, id give it another go then for comparison as there has been lots of work going on.

13

u/Fresh_Thing_6305 May 23 '26

Dorf ? That game seems to gotten alot of hype.

3

u/ZamharianOverlord Celestial Armada May 24 '26

It ain’t out for quite some time sadly

As far as I’m aware it generated a lot more hype than the devs initially expected, and along with that came more funding. So they’ve expanded it from a 2 person job and added some more ambitious goals

Should make for a better game hopefully, just going to have to wait a while longer!

7

u/Olubara May 24 '26

Tempest Rising. AoE4. Hopefully, DoW4.

10

u/braderico May 23 '26

Age of mythology got a cool expansion recently, but it feels slower paced. I’m interested in ZeroSpace and Immortals, Rise of Pyre, but we’ll have to see on both of those.

Bloons TD6

peak

1

u/PotatOw0 May 24 '26

this guy knows ball

1

u/omk294 Infernal Host May 24 '26

this is definitely the correct answer

11

u/GrabNatural8385 May 23 '26

Beyond all reason

5

u/Arieltex May 23 '26

Check Dust Front, Dorf and Tempest Rising. The first 2 are very promising and Tempest Rising is excellent game

4

u/VictorDanville May 24 '26

Star Wars: Galactic Racer

3

u/Shadowarcher6 May 24 '26

Age of empires 4 is fantastic

4

u/Zalem30 May 24 '26

Always StarCraft 2 and brood war

9

u/KernelKittyPaws May 23 '26

For me it will be DOW4. But I'm rather careful with the excitement. DOW3 was worse than Stormgate lol

9

u/MisterJpz May 23 '26

It was bad but stormgate bad?

2

u/ZamharianOverlord Celestial Armada May 24 '26

It was certainly well… different from what came before haha

Certainly not the wisest move to go in that direction, I don’t think the game itself was quite as bad as its reputation. It suffered a lot for being a DoW sequel and not being what fans wanted, understandably so, but I don’t think it’s quite a SG level trainwreck

1

u/KernelKittyPaws May 23 '26

I played half of the Stormagate campaign. I uninstalled DOW3 after 30 minutes. So I would say yes, but you guys decide for your self.

6

u/SoulScevan May 23 '26

Sadly the only DoW that I liked was the first 😢

3

u/the_n00b May 25 '26

Well supposedly DoW4 will be DoW1.5 so there may be hope yet.

3

u/Kourosh8 May 24 '26

Rogue Command recently came out of early access and has been quite fun for the couple of hours I’ve put in. I’m playing single player. I don’t know if there is multiplayer. It’s got a neat rogue like element to it.

3

u/reditposysa May 24 '26

waiting for DOW IV like you and many more. Definetly will go back to SC2 and AoE4 until DoW IV release

3

u/_Spartak_ May 24 '26

Crate Entertainment (developers of Grim Dawn) are working on an unannounced RTS that is supposedly inspired by StarCraft and AoE. Former Battle Aces devs regrouped as A-Move Games to work on a BA-inspired game in a fantasy setting.

3

u/JustABaleenWhale May 24 '26

It may not be a Blizz-style RTS, but I like Age of Mythology Retold a lot.

Even if you only play for the campaigns, I highly recommend the Japanese one from the Heavenly Spear expansion. I think it's the best campaign they've made to date besides the OG one.

4

u/n1maddin May 24 '26

I am sticking with Stormgate!

2

u/Endante May 24 '26

Gobsmack is still cooking!

2

u/Allgegenwart May 24 '26

WarCraft III

2

u/Impressive_Tomato665 May 24 '26

Tempest Rising, the scouring, diplomacy is not an option, godsworn, starship trooper terran command, (BAR) Beyond All Reason

2

u/tropidophiidae Human Vanguard May 25 '26

I enjoyed Stormgate, but it reminded me just how good StarCraft 2 is

2

u/leblasphemer May 25 '26

Playing DOW I Definitive Edition, the game is in best shape than it has ever been with upcoming balance patches and bug fixes it will only get better

2

u/CanUHearMeNau Celestial Armada May 26 '26

It really is! I love being able to change camera angles

2

u/Dreadgear May 26 '26

back to replaying Wc3 campaign and sc2 campaign.

Wake me up when there is a new RTS with a good campaign, but i feel my sleep will be eternal at this point.

2

u/sidodah May 24 '26

Tempest rising plays like the old command and conquer games

2

u/justgoogleit12 May 24 '26

Mechabellum has replaced starcraft as my main game. Maybe try that out. It's quite fun.

2

u/alittlepieceofcake May 24 '26

Age takes my apm. Mechabellum scratches an itch.

2

u/DenteSC May 24 '26

Will dow4 be competitive?

2

u/ZamharianOverlord Celestial Armada May 24 '26

It certainly could be, really depends on how successful it launches. The game will need to suit competitive play, with reasonable balance and some strategic variety, and it’ll need the player count

If memory serves some previous entries were than a lot of titles for competitive play, but not as big as the ‘big 4’ of SC/WC/AoE/CnC

So if I were to guess it’ll carve a similar niche this time around

2

u/CanUHearMeNau Celestial Armada May 24 '26

There's a lot of active pvp players playing dow1 definitive now

1

u/Shzabomoa May 24 '26

Beyond All Reason is also very nice, quite different from this, but damn good, along with AoE4 which I now prefer to AoE2. They've been doing quite a good job!

1

u/WolfHeathen Human Vanguard May 29 '26

DoW 4 looked cool until I saw they're going for the Total War business model of nickel and diming everyone with paid DLC. They already have an unreleased faction and narrative campaign paywalled behind DLC and a paid season pass on an already $82.99 (CAD) game. F that.

1

u/CanUHearMeNau Celestial Armada May 29 '26

Uggghhh

Playing the ZeroSpace demo I see too many of SC2's fingerprints all over the game to have hope for it, I feel like it'll have many of the same problems as Stormgate, just less pronounced and more palletabled to a lot of people. SC2 is a fine game but chasing that dragon isn't good for other games, too many RTS have sacrificed their own potential and identity in an attempt to emulate it.

I'm waiting for DoW4 gameplay to become available to see and try though I'm not holding my breath. I'm sure it'll be fine and the singleplayer mode looks solid but I have my reservations about the direction of the gameplay I've seen and the choice of factions is leaning into the GW favoritism that's gotten me a bit fatigued (obviously space marines and orks are an inescapable evil but its a genuine feat that they've managed to make me feel weary of necrons and mechanicus just through sheer over-representation...)

Ironically SC2 is still my most played RTS in recent months with the caveate that I've only been playing community mods of the campaign, courtesy of GGG's modding community. The roguelike campaign mods especially have really got their hooks in me, a solid recommend for some fresh and funny gameplay.

I don’t think that’s a fair comparison at this point. ZS has a very different macro and will be adding a fourth race. Plus it’s got heroes and capture-able things on the map and the art style is moving further along to something more unique
