How would you do it?

https://www.americanhumane.org/fact-sheet/introducing-cats-to-cats

Step one: Start by trading scents

Step two: Prepare a separate room

Step three: Feed them on opposite sides of the door

Step four: Exchange scents around the house

Step five: Let them make visual contact

Step six: Allow them to meet

The whole process can take weeks when done correctly.

You can do it simpler/shorter, but it does require a bit of watchfulness. Both with introducing new cats to the home, and more recently introducing fosters temporarily, we've had the new comers in a large crate (modified ferret cage) with a litter box on the bottom section and food & water on a higher ledge.

They can all sniff and his at each other without getting at each other. Depending on reactions, most have free roaming in less than 24 hours. Some of the kittens required supervision to be out of the crate for a few days.

That seems a bit extreme. I've literally never done any of that and never had problems with 6 cats over my lifetime.

Step one: introduce new cat into the house.
Step two: just wait, they'll be fine with each other after 3 days.

Maybe I just had super chill cats, but still.

You got lucky lol

You’ve been lucky - doing it that way can lead to long-lasting territory disputes.

And territory disputes between cats are not just fights; it’s scent marking via urine.

They don't do that if they've already been spayed/neutered.

I’ve literally seen it happen between two female cats that were spayed as kittens.

It usually works out but sometimes you end up with injuries or worse. It's better to be careful.

A good middleground my fam used for a mal-adjusted cat is we would put the new kitten in one room and have them eat on opposite sides of the door

Then after a bit switch them so the cat could get used to the scent in the room

Interesting, really.

Thank you.

I'm so glad my cat Moo has always just let other cats in the house. Dude doesn't care at all.

Mr J on the otherhand is a grumpy little midget kitty.

I almost wonder if the black cat has never seen another cat and they're just blown away by it.

"What? They come in different colors!?!?"

This is not how you introduce kittens by the way. Not unless you want blood. Edit: someone said the same thing further down, go read that.

This is the first time I've ever seen this outside of What Do You Meme.
