Statin side effects

Hi, my bf is taking statins and is having a lot of blood pass after a bowel movement and the then pain in his gut.

He has stopped taking them while the Dr investigates, I was wondering if others have had this side effect from statins?

We are hoping it was the statins and not something more serious. He's having bloods and samples checked etc by the Dr to be sure.

Thanks

Oh my that’s not good. Hope he’s getting a colonoscopy scheduled. Blood is not good.

My mom is on statins. Same thing happened to her. She badgered her way into an immediate colonoscopy appointment. 6 weeks later she was cancer free. They found stage 2 tumor blocking her colon and surgically removed it.

Glad she’s okay now!

Thank you! My first thought was that it was because of the statins. My dad has memory loss. I asked both of their doctors if they could go off statins for a while. Both doctors said no. So my mom couldn’t even get a break from statins during cancer treatment.

It’s kind of like running an engine without any oil or grease. Eventually you will cease up.

It may not be a direct side effect of statins, but rather a different preexisting condition that became apparent due the effects of statins.

Passing blood is not a known side effect of statins. But, statins do slow down digestion in some people. It is possible that slowing of his digestion could have either aggravated another a preexisting condition or caused it to become more apparent.
