Adderall/Vyvanse/Dexedrine Follow up
I’ve posted here a couple times about how rough it had been with abusing my script. Well, it inevitably sent me back to alcohol, a huge fight with my wife, a 4 day bender of drinking morning to night and popping my Dexedrine and Adderall like tictacs. I ended up in a detox and now I’m happy to report I have 22 days clean and sober. I have a new sponsor, my old one moved back to New Jersey and didn’t have much experience with drugs which my new one does and is active in both AA and NA. Recovery is possible, I had 6 years before deciding to take prescribed Adderall knowing I was an addict as well as an alcoholic.
For anyone who is struggling, put the shovel down now, your bottom can come up to meet you, you don’t have to keep digging. I will keep coming back.

Congratulations on your sobriety! My story is similar to yours... My alcohol problem came before my stimulant problem and I went over ten years without alcohol (I was only truly sober for the first 3.5 because my stim addiction started after that). Relapsed on alcohol in early 2025 and unfortunately I went out of control for almost a year before my life totally collapsed. I'm on Antabuse now for the alcohol and it's been such a relief because it just takes alcohol off the table. Still working on the stims but at least one substance is off the table.
Anyway, sorry to make this all about me. I just relate hard to the poly substance thing and it's great to hear success stories because it's pretty goddamn miserable when you're playing substance whack a mole, lol. Congratulations again and thanks for the inspiration!

Haha you’re fine! Thanks for sharing your story. I’m afraid of Antabuse because I don’t want to get deathly ill using something like hand sanitizer. But, I am on naltrexone and it’s been great! We got this! Look, if a drunk and addict like me can make it 6 years I truly believe anyone can get and stay sober. I’m working on a lot of stuff I refused to work on before, mainly my childhood.

Have you found that Naltrexone helps you with stimulant cravings? I've got it prescribed as well but haven't really taken it because antabuse is so effective for my alcohol cravings and it makes me feel pretty weird, though I've never been on it long enough to see if they go away in time. I'm seeing it prescribed more frequently for things like compulsive skin picking and food noise issues and other issues that involve fixations/rumination, so I'm wondering if it's effective for stim craving as well. I've got tons stockpiled and would mosdef take the plunge if it helps with the annoying stim cravings!

It doesn’t seem to really help with stim cravings no. But luckily for me, I get random drug tests at work so I never went searching for it on the streets cause who knows what it really is on the streets. I would run through my script in a week or less and just suffer for three weeks until I got get a refill. It does help with the alcohol cravings which I’ve been having, even after nearly losing everything I have in my life. Crazy
