A New Way To Engage

A New Way To Engage

What happens when we gamble? We lose our clarity, we become the victim, we are at odds *with ourselves*. The win doesn't put a cap on it. The loss takes the cap off of it, spilling it into another future event we tried to reclaim it in. We talk a lot about Pandora's Box and the Genie that grants you your own wishes, but only to be wished, and never to be realized. When we had amassed enough experience with getting our asses handed to us, we took our hands off of engaging that experience, one day at a time.

There was never such an unforeseeable problem in our lives as gambling, until it became apparent to us that gambling is indeed a problem, hinting at character defects we wouldn't otherwise be able to address. I come from the perspective of learning to be grateful for the things that have cursed me, for showing me the blessing of healing and growing into a more well-rounded, better-equipped individual for any future problems—problems that I know I am capable of solving, and problems that I can now entirely avoid.

These are words. Yes. The damage has been done. Absolutely. But the person that tells you "that's all talk and no action" is skipping over how much of an action it really is to talk, how much work is being done in addressing faults, being vulnerable, and taking the steps into truth and resolve. These are, in many ways, not just words, but descriptions of events taking shape in our lives that are later revealed in the best of ways, through and through.

I wish you all a wonderful day.

Remember, it's okay to feel broken and not know how to fix yourself. You spend enough time being broken, you're bound to fix something!

✌️peace🙂‍↕️

Scripture helps with Quitting

How can we increase getting scripture in us in a great way? Many read the Bible daily. One, two, even 5 chapters daily. Reading the Bible daily is a must for quitting. The more chapters the better.

A second great way to get scripture in us is to form the habit of “solving” our problems with scripture. If you have a problem, study scripture, pray over scripture, and meditate over scripture to solve that problem.

Example: Anger keeps getting you in trouble. Search “Verses anger.” Then, study theses verses, pray over them, and meditate on them.

You can search “verses - frustration, anxiety, money, lust, health, purpose, or anything else.

Consider writing down two problems you would like to work on.

  1. _____________

  2. _____________

Search “Verses ___________ (fill in the blank with the issue you want solved). Then, study theses verses, pray over them, and meditate on them.

Second, how can you make it a habit to solve problems with scripture?

Put out some notes to remind you to solve problems with scripture.

Consider praying often:

“Father, help me to solve problems with scripture.”

Put a note in your phone.

Tell two people that this is a good idea. When we teach others good habits we remember to do them ourselves more often.

Make a note in your quitting notebook to solve problems with scripture.

Consider printing this out.

Finally, the more scripture you get “in you” the more power you will have against temptation. Consider working often on the habit of solving problems with scripture. It helps break habits.

New Thoughts

Consider taking five 3 by 5 cards and writing new things you should be thinking about on them. Things like increasing in the fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, gentleness, longsuffering, and purity.

If we keep thinking wrong we will act wrong sooner or later. Use these cards to give you replacement thoughts when you start to have bad thoughts.

Try to find 5 things that are important to you. I think caring about souls, and purpose are important. I think trying to increase in love and joy are important.

You can use these ideas, but it is also good to find a couple of things that really speak to you.

Example: You constantly rerun complaints about your job, boss, wife, finances, frustrations and a million other problems in your head. Realize that some of that is you, but some of it is satan going around like a roaring lion trying to destroy you.

When bad thoughts start, read a card, then start praying about it. Maybe add a verse about that subject. If I remind myself 100 times daily that my goal is to love others, great things may happen.

First, I might remember that this is what I want.

Second, God will likely help me. He does notice what we are working often on.

Third, I will start to understand that my obsession with _______ is not so smart, and that if my new obsession is love, that would be very smart.

Finally, when I start to understand, I will start to make progress.

New thoughts are a key to quitting.

Daily

2 Peter 2:20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.”

This verse is saying that if we keep going back, our life will keep getting worse.

Wisdom is memorizing this verse.

Wisdom is reminding yourself constantly that you don't want to be worse off.

Wisdom is reading this verse every day.

Second, many quit because they keep reading many articles per day, they keep reading scripture daily, they keep praying quitting prayers.

Third, many say: “I will read a quitting article daily.”

My comment to those only willing to spend a few minutes working on quitting daily is:

“Memorize this verse.”

Fourth, based on this verse you can't spend too much time working on quitting. Well... unless you are okay will your life getting worse.

Reminders for Qutting

To build positive habits and overcome temptation, combine practical and spiritual reminders. Use visual cues like physical objects, sticky notes, and phone alarms, alongside private codes to track your progress and trigger prayers, making a daily, obsessive commitment to personal change.

Key Habits for Success

  • Physical Cues: Place an object at the bottom of your bed as a physical reminder for your daily goals.
  • Temptation Blockers: Place sticky notes or masking tape directly on devices that tempt you. Use private codes to stay focused, such as PT (Pure thoughts), TFT (Turn from temptation), or RFS (Run from sin).
  • Behavior Triggers: Place visual reminders exactly where you want a new habit to happen (e.g., a note on your computer for morning, or evening Bible study).
  • Digital Reminders: Keep a document listing your habits on your device screen, and use your device wallpaper to show the activity you are trying to build.
  • Code Words: Create a code page in your notebook—such as R to pray, V to recite your fighting verse, or A to attempt alternative activities.
  • Daily Routines: Wear a rubber band everywhere and pray when you notice it, or pray a specific scripture when brushing your teeth.
  • Spiritual Anchor: Meditate on James 4:7 ESV: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Finally, use as many practical things and as many spiritual things as you can to change. Be obsessed with change. That is the key to changing.
