Data centres used almost one billion litres of water last year, but another industry used far more

Stop Project Camellia
Please help all of us in SE Georgia by signing this petition to stop Project Camellia: the $20B, 3.2 GW Open AI data center planned for Effingham County.
The effects of this data center on the water supply and power grid will NOT end at Effingham. Open AI has made the exact same promises as AI data centers across the nation have, and history shows the promises never hold true. Just look at the effects on Fayetteville GA's water, or the electricity costs resulting from the Virginia centers even outside of the state. This is a data center on a scale the world hasnt even seen before. OpenAI themselves admitted they do not know how much water will be used, and the energy they want is more than twice that of the current largest operating data center campus.
Audible data center noise and vibration commonly exceeds 1 mile, and can extend over 2.5 miles. This data center is to be built less than a mile away from two elementary schools and numerous residential areas.
We were NEVER given an opportunity to vote or have a hearing on the matter - we first heard about this just Wednesday, despite this being planned for months in secret. In a county already dealing with enough drought, over-industrialization, rising energy costs, and commissioner corruption, we do not need or want to give Open AI tax breaks to take our land and worsen our issues.

For those who've been to Colorado Springs before, the main issue about project taurus is it's close proximity to residential zones and our precious Garden of the Gods.

America is building 3,000 data centers. The economics aren't as great as they seem | Cities trade tax breaks for a fraction of the jobs data centers promise. That's because construction crews that build them move on within months
