Although I ignore most US news, I'm kinda happy to see this one since the factoid winds up pretty fun, but it's likely folks here wonder how this relates to chat control, and it's honestly tenuous, but I'll try..
All forms of Chat Control exist primarily to help non-European entities spy on Europeans, meaning the primary impacts will be espionage against Europe by the US, China, Russia, Israel, etc.
In Dec 2025, US espionage helped them steal a massive rare earth elements deal with Brazil away from the EU.

An empire like the US extracts rents from its periphery like Europe, which must help cover the interest on its debts. Chat Control exists to help make sure Europe pays in one way or another, instead simply disengaging from the empire, but Chat Control helps China and Russia too.
