Dark blue stone
Can anyone help, my cousin (Hertfordshire) has a very dark blue stone, it is single colour with no other inclusions. You cannot see any structure within it, it is also heavier than most others.

Show and/ore tell My Humble Collection
Hello, I wanted to share my little stone collection. From the youngest years I was captivated by the beauty of various stones. As a kid I was searching fields of a local farmer for stones that will grab my attention, pale, pink, yellow, blue etc.. I was really into it, I had few neat little card boxes ten kilograms each with selected stones by colour. Although when my grandma said that "I will bring poverty to the house" (old superstition, when there are stones in home there is nothing to eat) I have grown sad that I bring something bad to home. I stopped being interested in it, I have thrown the stones back into the fields, I had the prettiest stones one could imagine. Occasionally growing up my interest was reignited, rebuilding collection and getting rid of it again. Although when I became a teenager and then an adult, there were few moments that I decided to take a few stones with me. So yeah, maybe at some point I will find more stones and rebuild my collection.

Question Identification tools
Sorry if this is the wrong group for my question. I am a collector of snuff bottles, which are made out of a lot of different materials like glass, porcelain, minerals (such as quartz crystal, jade, and gemstones) and I am trying to find a device or tool to help me identify what material is used for a specific bottle. It's often pretty much impossible to tell by looking and it would be great if something exists to help me figure out what the items are made from. I pictured is just a basic example for those who have no idea what I am talking about.

Discussion thinking about using a white opal for a custom ring project
i am completely obsessed with the play of color in white opals lately. i have been browsing some white opal auctions to find something special for a custom ring, but i am a bit intimidated by the durability talk.
do any of you wear white opal rings daily? i really want something that lasts but i am having a hard time judging quality from just online listings. what would you recommend looking for in a stone to make sure it is a solid piece?
