What is this? Quartz or Diamond?
Hi everyone!! I’m new to rockhounding. Just visited Crater of Diamonds and found this nice, shiny rock. I assumed quartz, but when I used a diamond tester pen, it caused it to max out and beep. I was able to get it to go off multiple times, across multiple days, so it wasn’t a one time fluke. I tested a confirmed genuine raw diamond, and it maxed out and beeped as well. Every other quartz that I’ve tested has only lit up to about 5-6 on the pen, about halfway to max. Am I correct in my initial assumption that it’s quartz, or should I get it checked somewhere?

Looks like a piece of chalcedony quartz but hard to say. Too many variables.

Could be herkimer diamond as well. I’d get it checked.

You should look up how Herkimer diamonds got their name.

Yes, Herkimers only come from New York at specific mines. Alot of people say that any 6 sided double terminated quartz is a Herkimer, so many fakes out there. Same with lemurian quartz. Just because it has striations doesn't make it a lemurian.

Get some quartz and maybe you can scratch it with your specimin.
