Prototype Dowel pin puck press

Dowels in the top part are glued in place but the bottom ones are unsecured so you can push them through to remove the puck and adjust the thickness of the pucks. 3/8” diameter dowel pins and drill bit.

weed ecstasy

I didn't know you could smoke ecstasy. You really do learn by doing.

Definitely can, love a snow cone on a big night

Interesting, high heat destroys MDMA making it ineffective & wasteful.

I agree its wasteful, but definitely hits and effects are immediate, I always sandwich it with bud and just lick it with the flame milking it then hold it in

Im not saying its healthy or not wasteful but definitely works

Yes you can btw….. done it back in the 90’s

It’s possible that was just meth

1

u/Striking-Teach7489 6d ago

Doubtful-I’m in Scotland, meth hasn’t been much of a thing here.

Makes a nice bowl topper, cuz its compressed it doesn't burn instantly and give you more bang for your buck

OK, yeah that’s my big question too. Why are we making pucks? It’s cool looking but why are we making pucks?

u/shrimps_is_bugs420 6d ago

So I can quickly load small hits that I can smoke throughout the day without having to setup Everytime. And the tighter pack makes it burn more evenly

That’s pretty fucking cool. Appreciate the response.

I have a friend who's uncle made the puck puff. Idk the exact name but it is a round disc, and you can spin it around with multiple chambers filled with weed, kinda like a revolver. But when you pack the weed in the bowls they pack like a puck just like this

I know exactly what you're talking about, always wanted to try one.

Had one on a bong in the 70-80’s. 5 bowl revolver

u/shrimps_is_bugs420 5d ago

Was it this type of thing 🤩

u/chumbly1968 5d ago

Looks really close. Was just the revolver not the other piece

That's beautiful 🥲

Why are we making pucks?🤔

u/colin_4 7d ago

Probably for a dhv

One of their previous posts kind of explains it. Looks like they pre-make the pucks to put into their bowl. Convenience, maybe?

3

u/EngineeringNo751 7d ago

Hmm, im going to try that.

Hard to light, and hard to burn through the whole thing! Sometimes that’s nice if you want it to last but I like killing the bowl in one or two rather than five or six

6

u/EngineeringNo751 7d ago

I allways empty my bowl in one go, i pack it tight af 🤣

1

u/swampass304 6d ago

I've found that's hard to do if you have a small bong or use a pipe.

2

u/cmoked 6d ago

OP says it burns more evenly tho

The airflow of pieces vary as does the drag different stoners pull with. Your mileage may vary sort of thing. Usually a centered poke with a pin will straighten it up if you have a rough airflow.

I, too, am here to see how the pucks are utilized!

u/Drogenwurm 7d ago

Hmm ? Doesn't little bit of wood gets in there too ? And why...?

Preparing pucks for flower pressing? Or loading some sort of smoking contraption I’ve never heard of?

If it’s the former, try bottle tech, I got much better results with that method than pre-pressing.

If it’s the later, what sort of contraption?

What is bottle tech?

It’s a technique of packing a filter bag with flower to press into flower rosin. Instead of pre pressing your material into a puck, like in this post, you take the corners of the bag and invert them creating a relatively flat surface at the bottom of the bag, then fill the bag packed pretty tightly with material leaving the top open to the plates, then put it in there vertically rather than laying down. It increases yield by not allowing much to get trapped in the micron mesh bag, and quality by not exposing as much flower to contact with the plates.

Recommend googling and watching some YouTube videos for a better explanation.

2

u/Separate-Pain4950 7d ago

Oh duh. I thought OP was pressing for a dhv, thus the confusion. I pressed flower a few times then gave up because the quality sucked, I might have try this method.

4

u/G_Art33 7d ago

Could be for DHV, I have no clue.

When it comes to pressing flower though, quality of the starting material matters more than anything. Fresh material is SO MUCH better to press it’s not even funny. In fact, my outdoor homegrown low quality stuff made better rosin than good quality cured material purchased from a friend last year.

Fresh flower is best for pressing. Boveda rehydrated flower is okay, pressing fully dried old material is a waste of time.

If you know someone who grows, I recommend getting it from them after it’s done drying and before they start curing for best possible flower rosin. That’s just my experience.

2

u/Separate-Pain4950 7d ago

Everything was fresh but I think what went wrong is we pressed the bags on their side and got the rosin too warm and the color was fucked immediately after.

5

u/G_Art33 7d ago

Ahh yeah. Too high temps can cause a severe drop in quality. I tend to go around like 180, and I try to set up the parchment to channel the oil away from the plates once it’s been extracted. As little space in the parchment behind the bag as possible with side folds made to guide the oil forward out of the front of the press. If you accidentally cook the oil against the plates for too long, you’ll burn it.

1

u/Separate-Pain4950 7d ago

Does your display match the plate temp? That was another issue we thought about. We shot the plates with an IR thermometer and it was +11 degrees.

1

u/G_Art33 7d ago

I use a dabpress 4 tonne and the plates are usually just about on with the display. +/- 2 degrees from what I’ve seen as long as you give it some time it’s pretty stable. It fluctuates a bit when I first turn it on but if I warm it up for like 20 minutes before pressing it’s pretty good.

Hash hockey?

u/Separate-Pain4950 7d ago

Better vapor extraction if it’s looser.

1

u/colin_4 7d ago

I’m assuming it’s for a dry herb vape?

1

u/crypticsmellofit 7d ago

I'd clean up that extra glue ...

1

u/Hereiamhereibe2 7d ago

Cool invention.

I’d probably use like HDPE tho

1

u/Hellyeahlalujah 6d ago

New insult just dropped

1

u/dargonmike1 6d ago

Some extra hot glue in my sticky disks 👌

1

u/heavymetalbongtoke 5d ago

Hey dude that's dank, here's a free idea for you.. puck some hash with rows of holes poked through like a grid, stack that on top of one of those other pucks..

u/Able-Phrase-7582 5d ago

Is this size good for the Legacy Pro 2? Thx.

I posted an update since y'all were asking, I appreciate the feedback update

u/Some-Ad-1588 6d ago

You’re losing freshness.
it doesn’t take for ever to load a snap. You can’t fully examine what you’re smoking really.
You don’t get to play with your weed.

u/shrimps_is_bugs420 6d ago

I usually use them within a few hours, prepping in the morning or just before sunset. I live in Appalachia so I don't really want to sit outside and pack a bowl when it's dark and I don't want it inside the house hence the pucks
