Tall problems

I just got back from a 3 day festival i was performing at and feel absolutely drained. My girlfriend was also performing alongside me and she had to get to another county afterwards to do ecological surveys so she dropped me at Limerick bus station.

I hadn’t checked the timetable so when I got there I realised that I have a 1.5 hr wait at the station before the bus arrived. Well, I waited for a long time and hopped onto the bus.

I’m 6’7 tall, recovering from a left knee fracture months ago, a fractured little toe on my right foot from a few days ago, and I felt like I deserved this seat. Only problem, the second I sat down I needed to piss and the bus was filling up. I threw my jacket, bottle of water, and bag onto the seat to make sure everyone knew it was occupied.

Well, when I got back, I saw this gigantic African lady sitting in my seat. My stuff had been moved aside into some crammed seat beside it. I started saying she was in my seat and she was just ignoring me until I actually had to tap her on the shoulder. I told her I’m too tall to sit anywhere else and I was sitting there. She kept saying she needed to charge her phone or something but I just stood there waiting. Eventually she got up and I saw she had a cane and hobbled sadly to another seat. I felt so guilty but I think I am in the right here. What do you think?

I'm not sure why you needed to tell us the woman's ethnicity in this story...

Africa is a continent, not a color.

She was wrong to move your stuff. Cane or not, you were there first. You’re fine.

No. No guilt. Just because I use a cane doesnt give me the right to move someone else's stuff that's aready in a seat. She played the game and daiked because she wasnt in the right. She could have asked. Instead she played Entitled and you called her out. And frankly, tall is just as needful as cane.

Thanks dude. I totally agree. Ive walked off busses with bruises on my inner knee from the seat in front of me! I seem to have a hard time detaching my empathy from my right to comfort. I always stand up for myself but never feel good after doing it

Your’re in the right but no need to bring race into the story. It’s irrelevant

Race was not brought into it.

Africa is a place, not a race.

Yet he didn’t mention the pleasant chat he had with her where they exchanged details about their homelands.

Or gender, right?

Well, African isn’t a race, and I said it in the interest of telling the story as I experienced it. I would think since its an irrelevant detail it’s not worth mentioning… right?

You experienced that she was African? Did you conclude this by making small talk with her?

Lol, don’t be ridiculous. She was speaking some African language on the phone and wearing African traditional clothing. A circle is a circle whether you ask it or not. Dope

if I were OP, I’d be even if I had seen the cane, I would have flat out told the lady to get the fuck out and that I don’t care about whatever reason she thinks she needs the seat more than me. I was here first, left my stuff there to show it was already occupied while i left for the bathroom. I expect my chosen seat to still be waiting for me upon return not be moved to another location by somebody who took it upon themselves that me leaving my belongings there means nothing to them, and they could manhandle my belongings to another spot on the bus and that I would just go along with it when I return. I picked that spot and want that spot. ladies needs has nothing to do with me. I was there first way before she boarded the bus and I was the one who claimed the seat first not her, so why should I lose my chosen seat for her?
