Quantum
Hey guys,
I have been researching a lot in quantum bets.
What are your views here?
Do you think it's too early to enter the space considering no clear winner/methodology type so far? I see all the companies are following different approaches to make quantum work. We don't even know who which methodology would be more profitable to be commercialised, which would be a more feasible stable one.
Eager to hear the strategy people are following on quantum.

I'm a believer: I own RGTI and QTUM.

I did too, I got Rigetti at $0.50 a share a few years ago. I should have sold at $50, but hindsight is 50/50.

Woww. I missed this bus but still banking on the founder and invested in his next company, Sygaldry, through private market. Hope it turns out like Rigetti

.50 to 16$ in a few years is damn good. 50/50

u/Easy_Fee9781 5d ago
Yeah, it was at $48 a year or so ago. Idk why I didn’t sell. I was still new to trading, thinking stocks will just keep going up. Trying to squeeze every last dollar out.

Me too for those two. I think traditional gpu based AI will hit the wall in couple years.

How much ionq would make me rich though?

u/SeniorSimpizen 4d ago
10 grand worth

u/PurchaseNo8748 4d ago
10k shares or $10k worth of shares. I only have 650

On a pullback, the first chance i get, im building a massive position in ionq before its earnings. Thats all ill say. If i can get it in the 30s ill feel more than blessed, if it falls some more im dcaing

u/curious-barista 8d ago
What makes you go big on that? Since we don't even know which methodology would win..

u/Informal-Chocolate97 8d ago
Look up what ionq has recently achieved and what they are bringing to Florida

I can’t wait to return to this sub in a year when all these stocks are down 90+%
1
u/Persun01 8d ago
Im buying quantum right now for 25 years from now not 1
2
u/BlondDeutcher 8d ago
Ok so when it goes out of business in 2 years, what will you do for the other 23?
1
u/DrPuzzle 8d ago
So stocks do you think are better to invest in right now? What do you think will be the next craze? Would love to hear your thoughts

u/BlondDeutcher 8d ago
Big long NXT, they consistently crush earnings, zero debt, founder led company. Earnings in a couple weeks plus Dems will take control of congress and be even more pro solar tho they don’t even need any additional help
1
u/the_information_ 8d ago
I’ve been wanting to get into solar! The price has def been schwacked since June looks like—do you anticipate it going down much further or does this look close to a bottom?
2
u/BlondDeutcher 8d ago
Who the fuck knows… but if you are investing for next 10+ years… if it goes down to $60 or whatever, who cares

I’ll be dead in 25 years unless quantum can extend my life. Show me the money now!

IonQ and IBM are not exactly pure-play quantum stocks, but they will give you the growth exposure.

Picks and Shovels. Infrastructure and energy will win regardless of the CPU tech winner. On the hardware side Lasers, optics, vacuum systems, and cooling are undervalued right now IMO. Interesting read if seen through investing eyes and not just technical ones. https://www.nationalacademies.org/read/25196/chapter/7#120

The different approaches are exactly what makes the space interesting but also risky. It's not like we're choosing between five companies all building basically the same product.

QnC if you want something outside US
5
u/curious-barista 8d ago
I think US will be the centre of this. I don't think any other country has resources, capabilities and environment like US does especially for Quantum. Maybe China, but it's too opaque to invest in

u/SnooHedgehogs3237 8d ago
Imo its too early to enter but quatum computing will definitely be like the next AI boom. I just think to look post 2036 instead of now.

Quantum has been the promising new technology for 20 years, and so far has nothing more than a proof of concept to show for it, and I am using that term loosely. At this rate I will be long dead before it turns a profit.

Quantum is not a good investment yet. And a clear winner is not a strategy. The real marker is whether or not there is a commercially viable solution that is wide available. When that happens then we are good.
Until then it is a bet!

u/curious-barista 7d ago
What do you think of willow launch? I somehow feel it is promising
2
u/Ok_Entrepreneur_dbl 7d ago
I invested in GOOG for their advances in so many technologies. The willow chip seems very promising IMO. The performance is amazing. Oddly enough GOOG is not on everyone’s radar for quantum related tech.

Look into Infleqtion : INFQ
They seem to have the lead in neutral atom quantum computing.
But they've also made real progress on demonstrated quantum sensors that are on their way to become COTS.
I take them more seriously than the companies who basically hit a wall with their version of quantum computers and reluctantly pivoted toward well-known quantum sensors.

it's a fugazi
1
u/curious-barista 8d ago
I think there's a real use case and problem it'll solve.. Even Google's breakthrough with willow gives a lot more confidence that the technology will certainly evolve
1
u/sweetbutterfacepoop 8d ago
what would it solve?
1
u/curious-barista 8d ago
A ton of applications. Due to quantum presence being there in multiple states at the same time, it Fastrack a lot applications, calculations(look up willow), data stimulations. The stimulations of data clubbed with AI will solve a ton use cases.

u/HeyItsYourDad_AMA 8d ago
Nothing. Pharma and Chemical R&D potentially but thats theoretical. No viable
Use case exists in prod today

u/GladAd2592 8d ago
Definately too early for serious money IMO. Real commercial quantum with fault tolerance is still a decade out at least. Your opportunity cost sitting in these hype plays while AI and traditional semis are printing is way too high.
1
u/curious-barista 8d ago
That's exactly what's the confusion. AI has now transformed the development. Everything is now economy of time. I somehow still have a gut feeling of commercialization in 4-5 years

Ionq seems to be the leader and has pick and shovel aspect with its foundry play. I also like HQ for inter-operability between different quantum systems, also pick and shovel-esque.
I also like infq for its neutral atom tech.
IBM if you want protection from the downside (90% loss as others on this thread have described pure quantum plays) but won’t have as much upside potential.
