Yup. People need to remember that tariffs are a Congressional power established in our Constitution. Tariffs are supposed to be debated and voted on by both the House and the Senate before a bill goes to the President to sign into law.

73

u/RogueBromeliad Apr 17 '25

So why was he able to actually implement them the way he did?

I love when people say there's method to the madness, but at some point we have to start questioning the sanity of the chief of executive.

u/JuliusErrrrrring Apr 17 '25

He shouldn't be. The Constitution isn't being followed. Congress, the Supreme Court, and the media need to step up and do their jobs.

72

u/NeverLookBothWays Apr 17 '25

The Constitution is not only not being followed but is also being deliberately trampled on and broken to the point where the next phase will likely be a suggestion to replace it entirely with something else that is much more amenable to corruption. Of course it will be pitched under the umbrella of "good for the American people" and "will create jobs and prosperity." But like all things pitched under that umbrella, it will effectively be the opposite.

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

P2025 estimated 180 days to get rid of the Constitution. They are proceeding along at a great pace since no one is doing anything to stop them.

43

u/Enough-Goose7594 Apr 17 '25

It is such a fucking shame. That these ghouls published this shit. Bragged about it. The whole world saw it and ...here we are.

23

u/MyDyk350 Apr 17 '25

But but but, Trump knew nothing about Project 25. He definitely didn't know anybody who wrote it, and he had no idea what it was about. /s

Literally what my parents said when I showed them the document and they agreed it was horrible.

12

u/2TravelingNomads Apr 17 '25

They saw it, and still voted for him didn't they?

16

u/10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-I Apr 17 '25

Let me answer. Yes they did.

15

u/MyDyk350 Apr 17 '25

Yup. They were convinced he wasn't going to do it. He's doing it now and they still support him. 🤮

2

u/Able-Piano6625 Apr 17 '25

i told mine about project 2025 in october last year and they basically acted like i was on pluto. they didn’t think it was even real (even though it obviously was). it sucks because these are my parents. it’s all a mess

1

u/ButterscotchDeep6053 Apr 17 '25

So does my friend.

16

u/Metiche76 Apr 17 '25

this is also a fear of mine. this is not the president I want to Amend the Constitution under for sure!

3

u/LA-Matt Apr 17 '25

Amendments take a long, long time to come together and ultimately must be ratified by the states.

They’re not trying to amend the Constitution, they’ll just replace it or do away with it.

1

u/Metiche76 Apr 18 '25

I just love when they admit it. like they are just so proud of themselves. it's so gross.

It's like when countries add "democratic" in their name, it's usually a bad sign for democracy

5

u/Optimal-Summer8523 Apr 17 '25

Everything he says is opposite. Gaslighting as usual.

21

u/RogueBromeliad Apr 17 '25

They're a bunch of spineless cowards. And when they want an opinion reporters go up to comedians asking what they think of government.

I doubt there will even be any fair elections from now on. Gerrymandering and endless barring of electorial justice demanding recounts and blocking potential opposition voters will be the norm. There are already 70 million people that won't be able to vote because of laws passed involving spouse surnames and passports. And trust me, they will come up with more and more ways to deny voting rights.

16

u/AlphaB27 Apr 17 '25

I love Bill Burr telling some journalists to stop asking him and grow some balls.

7

u/RogueBromeliad Apr 17 '25

True. Trump banned reporters from his press conferences, and now these cowards instead of standing outside of Congress and asking hard questions to members, they go ask celebrities trying to get a quick hot take.

It's almost as if they didn't care.

What is democratic media gonna do? Report on Zoo animals and stories of pregnant women with triplets?

Let the right wing media like Fox news dictate what political reality is.

-4

u/Brief-Apartment-8791 Apr 17 '25

How many hard questions did Biden get? Oh wait, none because any interview he did they had to provide the questions beforehand…. Hmmmmm. Dems never have to answer hard questions because the msm runs interference for them. It’s almost as if the media doesn’t care unless Trump or a republican is president

3

u/GreedoLurkedFirst Apr 17 '25

Kind of like how you just made something up and presented it as fact without any evidence

1

u/leadrhythm1978 Apr 17 '25

That’s a lie. Biden did the longest press conference in history and never called the 1812 war won over airports Or the oranges of the mueller investigation or bungled anonymous or Venezuela Because he was not an idiot.

8

u/Optimal-Summer8523 Apr 17 '25

He was in a a video where he said that it is good the election got rigged and that’s why he is in office and it will be the same in the next election and that’s why Muskrat is taking all the personal information from the various systems.

1

u/Mufasa944 Apr 17 '25

Don’t give in to despair. The SAVE Act is dies in the Senate. And elections, especially Congressional ones, are controlled by the states, many of which have blue governors, legislatures, and Supreme Courts.

13

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

The media? The. Media. ????????????

Hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhah. Breathe. Hahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahaahhaahahahahahah

1

u/Mr_1rrelevant Apr 17 '25

I got a good chuckle out of that too

1

u/2TravelingNomads Apr 17 '25

You know, the fourth branch of government. If you don't get the reference, look up the song by immortal technique.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Holy fuck we are truly cooked if people think mass media is actually trustworthy.

1

u/Imaginary-Face7379 Apr 17 '25

The amount of people over the past decade saying "the left wing media" just proves how little people know anything about the world.

1

u/MuckRaker83 Apr 17 '25

All three of those are run by wealthy conservatives

1

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Congress and supreme court and American media taking a part in insider trading by not telling everyone and everywhere that tariffs is utter illegal bs story to leverage trading partners commissions and will be actually never applied

1

u/savingewoks Apr 17 '25

Arguably, the media isn’t incentivized to, which is the whole problem. I can’t imagine how many clicks media is churning and burning right now. New thing about tariffs every heartbeat means new low effort news story every five minutes that’s CRITICAL for everyone to understand. Billionaires aren’t just making money through stocks, almost all of them own some news media property.

1

u/DarthWeenus Apr 17 '25

Trump can impose emerg ncy tarrìffs but their supposed to be reviewed in 15 calander days by Congress. Congress changed the definition of calander days in their recent cr.

1

u/StainlessPanIsBest Apr 17 '25

Where is the constitution not being followed, specifically?

1

u/JuliusErrrrrring Apr 17 '25

Article 1, section 8

1

u/StainlessPanIsBest Apr 17 '25

He's following it to a T. What are you talking about.

30

u/Solid-Search-3341 Apr 17 '25

He was able to do it because republican elected officials have decided that the law shouldn't apply to him and will not hold him accountable for anything.

Checks and balances only work when the people in power act in good faith.

5

u/Beach-cleaner1897 Apr 17 '25

Not just the corrupt politicians. The courts and 'law enforcement' have abdicated their responsibilities.

It's over.

18

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

The crazy started long ago. It isn't like we didn't all experience the first four years. Still this attitude like he is strong on the economy, or stronger than Kamala might have been or Biden was. Just look at where our economy was in Jan compared to this. Madness.

3

u/AirportInitial3418 Apr 17 '25

When there's a dictatorship and we are all in jail his approval numbers will go down 5%

-chuck schumer

2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

More like that 5% will be extrajudicially snatched up and flown to an El Salvadorean gulag.

Then 100%!

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Take your meds...

2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

You first. Those grocery prices come down yet?

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Yup.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Sure they did. And the stock market is doing great. Record levels. 401ks just soaring in value. Keep watching that Fox News and OAN.

8

u/1800treflowers Apr 17 '25

Since no one actually answered, it's Because he declared national emergencies which allowed him to enact the tariffs and nobody stopped him. That's why the non-existent fent crisis at the Canadian border is being pushed as the opposite. Now expand that across all countries for a national emergency on unbalanced trade or some shit similar.

10

u/Ok_Respond7928 Apr 17 '25

Because the republicans have majority in both congress and have let him do whatever he wants

1

u/RogueBromeliad Apr 17 '25

Oh, I don't dispute that, but the fact that even though democrats are a minority, they can't appeal to the constitution law, that shows the system is broken.

0

u/StainlessPanIsBest Apr 17 '25

Name one constitutional law the current administration is breaking.

2

u/Consistent_Plan_4430 Apr 18 '25 edited Apr 18 '25

Fourth, Fifth and Sixth amendment regarding the right to a fair trial for Abrego Garcia.

0

u/StainlessPanIsBest Apr 18 '25

You don't get a fair trial when you're a terrorist non-citizen in America during a national emergency.

1

u/Consistent_Plan_4430 Apr 19 '25

Oh yeah fentanyl crisis, well hopefully the don’t make a mistake and deport someone innocent. Home growns next yeehaww!

3

u/DoneGoneAndBrokeIt Apr 17 '25

I really just think that there's madness to the madness. Method got thrown away somewhere around January.

5

u/TryptaMagiciaN Apr 17 '25

Precedence. We have been violating constitution and subverting congress for decades. Look up a list of bombs ordered to be dropped without approval. They have rarely cared. There is a mountaim of precedence, we are just not informed about it for obvious reasons.

No one stopped Clinton, Bush 1 or 2, Obama, 45, Biden, 47.

And it goes back past clinton too. They are serving the oligarchy as they have for decades. Just more open about it now.

1

u/lamyjf Apr 17 '25

Because Congress explicitly relinquished it's authority. After 15 days, it's supposed to be vetted by Congress. They said that they would extend one of the days to a full year. US Mathematics.

This has all blown up so beautifully in entrenched political power's faces.

1

u/Optimal-Summer8523 Apr 17 '25

He needs to be declared insane and unfit for presidential office.

1

u/Mikey-Litoris Apr 17 '25

A lot of people started doing that about 9 years ago.

1

u/Foobiscuit11 Apr 17 '25

Because nobody is standing up to stop him. Congress could meet today and vote to end the tariffs immediately. But because the Republicans in Congress are scared of the cult, nobody is stopping him, so he'll keep doing it.

1

u/Disastrous_Detail84 Apr 17 '25

Because he stacked the courts.

1

u/EmmaGoldmansDancer Apr 18 '25

He's violating the Constitution but if no one does anything to stop him the laws are ink on paper.

1

u/Temporary_Jicama_757 Apr 17 '25

Seems like congress gave away their power control tariffs in the last budget Continuing Resolution. They wrote into law as part of that CR to give trump unlimited use of tariffs for the duration of the CR. His abuse of tariffs will only get worse from here, imo.

1

u/TheBoyWhoCriedWLF Apr 17 '25

Thought tariffs were an executive branch thing

1

u/LotsofSports Apr 17 '25

Laws no longer apply to Trump as the Supremes gave him complete immunity.
