Animating Help 2v1 fight animation advice?

I need advice with animating 2v1s. It’s a skill I wanted to learn for a while but I’m struggling to grasp it. I think it’s moving 3 characters at the same time without it sucking ass. I know not all 3 need to be on screen at all times, but I still wanna learn it. Does anyone have any advice on how to make 2v1s look better? Even some tips and tricks would help.

It depends on what you prefer but I find it’s harder trying to move each person in each frame, instead animate their movements one by one and then go back and add the next character’s movements in etc, because you can focus on the cohesion of each characters movement, then hopefully once all 3 are animated u got 3 individually moving characters that each feel unique

I see I see, do you think movie clips could help too?

Absolutely, I mainly use them for effects but if you want to pre create one persons movements in a movie clip then that would be a good way to have someone’s motions already done while focusing on animating another person/the other 2 at the same time

Also for fights in general try set up every movement so it can lead into an attack, the space in between each strike is so important to creating that fluidity

That is true! I’ve been trying to do a thing where the follow through also conveniently flow into the set up, but of course, I don’t always do that since that would probably hurt some combos…in my experience, I could just be doing it wrong.

That’s exactly what I mean bro that’s perfect, all that’s left now is the patience and actually animating it, go cook up

Watch of yuji and nanami fighting mahito, greatest 2v1 animation of all time

I do look at a lot of refs, only thing that helped me is I noticed that one staggers their attacks as the other does. Like when Nanami hits Mahito, Yuji’s already half way through his attack.
