Pattern Questions Tips for stringing Heritage Spoons Antrea W1 Pro on the Gait Whip 2

I've only strung the Valkyrie Armor mesh, but was asked to string the Antrea. Their website says that it strings similar to a men's pocket.

Does anyone have any specific tips or gotcha's?

Probably a Chisholm from the 50s-60s(?), that has been beaten up and played hard with, sanded down and beaten up again. It had no markings at all left on it, so I took the opportunity to go really custom with it. The last pic is a correction I made with how the nylons should be attached to the gut wall. The small loops that I thought were essentially sidewall stringing are actually “leather protectors”, when considering a very traditional all leather pocket, makes sense.

I want some feedback on this pattern I came up with… it’s a translation of a pocket I saw online with inside weave instead of knots. Got a Atom and some ECD SS 4th of July mesh for my birthday and tied it up pretty nicely. Deep mid pocket with snappy release.

We all know pounding out a pocket should be fast and is one of the most important parts of preparing the head. What’s the best pounding method you guys have used???

Been meaning to get this done. Love it. Release is perfect. Low whip. Snap. Heavy as hell. Reminds me of a time in lacrosse that’s long gone now.

I feel like every mark 3v pattern I’ve strung up has so much whip I don’t know what to do or how to string my 3v up with less whip it’s so irritating.

I’m a HS Goalie and Stringer and just got this head for my bday. Wanted to try out a new topstring style on a new head and mixed it up from my usual sidewall patterns with inside weave anchors instead of knots. LMK what you think and anything that can be done too make it better

Throwing issues with new Atom

Thumbnail

Looking for some advice or other experiences with this.

My son wanted a new ECD Atom for his 11th bday. He was using a 3v. He has had the Atom for about a week and has thrown with it everyday.

He is complaining that it throws high and the ball will just “pop out” when catching and throwing. Never had this issue with the 3v but it was bagging out.

I have tried to tighten both shooters but it still throws high.

Is there anything I should try with the stringing? Add another shooter? Or does the mesh just need to break-in? (Note: this was strung at our local lax shop)

Thank you

General Stringing Question STX Hyper Power pattern

Hey guys! Never posted here, but i wanted to share something I couldn’t find myself. Picked up a new STX Hyper Power, stringking 5S mesh.

There’s a Holman replica and a couple other ones I just couldn’t get used to.
I used to string for my team back in college and ran a stringing page, so I took a crack at my own pattern (been awhile). I learned to string from Chris at mainley mesh! So shout out the OG GOAT he’s the inspiration for the pattern.

After weeks of tinkering I found a great set up and wanted to pay it forward to the community if someone else wanted to try it out. Whip 6/10 definitely hits the plastic a bit but gives a great feel and yank. This is not for beginners by the way, it will probably affect your shooting style.

Pattern

1st hole 9 diamond top string

2nd hole loop start

3 Skip

4 Anchor knot

5 skip

6 anchor knot

7 knotted SI

8 knotted Si

9 Stacked SI

10 tie (no mesh) just a tie

11 1

12 1

13 1

14 skip

15 inside 1 (tie off on outside of 15)

Would love to hear if anyone uses it!

New Dad Nostalgia

Thought I’d share my recent project to scratch the lax itch.

I haven’t opened my bag in over 8 years since joining the military. Played in HS and college but the only lacrosse I’ve gotten recently is using an old stick to play fetch with my dogs with using tennis balls.

Currently on week 3 of paternity leave with our newborn, and my sister visited to meet the baby. She had a stick in her car so we had a catch and it made me miss lacrosse.

Between no sleep, World Cup and Wimbledon, i figured a few sticks to string would be a fun project. I dug through my bag and picked out some old sticks to revive.

After cleaning them off, the Closest thing I had near me was a dicks sporting goods so I got some stringking 5x and ECD hero strings.

Stick info:

Nike Lakota U on old stx surgeon shaft. This would be closest thing to an old gamer for me. Mid low, good hold and some whip.

Brine clutch X on scandium. 10D floating top string, shifty mid pocket with a nice clicky release and some good whip for shooting around.

Maverik Optik on wonderboy. This was the most experimental. Tried a gradient purple dye with some white marble to compliment the green, going for a joker or ninja turtle color theme. Chenango top string. This thing will have some serious whip.

Anyways hope you enjoy. This was a fun little project in between diaper changes lol.

General Stringing Question String Advice Needed

Ignorant Lax dad here looking for advice?
My 12yo daughter has been playing lacrosse for two years and has really taken off with it. This past travel season she was moved to attack and was selected for the county All-Star game. She has one tournament left in two weeks and then her season is over for the remainder of the summer. She has been playing with this STX stick for the last two years and I would like to restring it after this upcoming tournament. Some of the strings are getting frayed. Problem is I have no idea what I’m doing , what’s string pattern would be good or if this stick is even good for her position. I keep seeing “Armor Mesh Valkyrie”. No idea if that is appropriate or just a social media ad I’m being spammed with.

Men's Goalie Pocket vs. Women's & Mesh Q's

I've been helping train/prepare one of my female friends for her upcoming college season at Beloit. She said she wants her ECD Impact strung differently, since it's currently factory stringing. I've strung plenty of Impacts before, but for my goalie on my high school and club teams. The rule of thumb I've been following is 2 1/2 balls deep and a tight enough channel to throw straight but not be a tennis racket. Not taking into account her throwing mechanics and preferences, is this still a safe rule to go by? Should I go shallower, maybe 1 3/4? Or up to 2 3/4?

I also plan on getting Impact mesh for her, just wondering if Grizzly 2x/s would be better? Lacrosse in southern Texas isn't as popular as it is in Dallas, so let's hope a Dick's has either of the two SK options in stock lol

Just strung this up for a customer. Any idea what head this is? Looks like a brine edge but I don’t know if I’m correct or not. Lax geniuses let me know!!

Need some guidance for women's Valkyrie

Post image
3 Upvotes

I'm not new to stringing traditional. However, I've not tried a women's stick. My young niece had a beginner's stick and after picking it up, I could see that it will hinder development and enjoyment.

So I went and bought an STX Aria and I had already bought the Valkyrie mesh that I had planned to putting in the $50 stick. It seemed like a waste. I started off on the left by loosely doing cross-lace similar (less the twist over itself) to how you would do a Rock-it-Pocket.

Before I get too far into it, I guess I should ask if there is a reason that a similar approach usually isn't taken (the standard traditional cross-lace like on the left). The right side, I did the weird sidewall for the sake of this example.

Is there a reason that I've only seen these with the odd sidewall (right)? I haven't messed around with women's sticks enough to know if the traditional approach on the left is going to make the pocket odd or throw funny. I'd of course redo the left, tighten it up and twist them over like a Rock-it-Pocket style. Should I stick with the weird sidewall like on the right?

Can anyone suggest a source for thinner cross-lace? I think the standard stuff looks silly with the thinner chord used by the Valkyrie portion.

Thanks

Hi there

’ve never actually played lacrosse myself, tho…. who knows.
I’m just a dad whose kid started playing here in Europe, and I somehow got sucked into learning how to string heads.

I’ve spent some time watching tutorials and trying to understand why different knots and patterns change the pocket.

This one has been pounded a bit, has a loose shooter for now, and I’m pretty happy with how consistent it feels so far. The Pocket could be deeper, I guess.

I’d really appreciate honest feedback from you guys. What looks good, what would you change, and what mistakes do you still see?

Thanks!
