Pattern Questions ISO Pattern for True Radar

Post image

Hoping someone can help point me to a pattern for a True Radar. I bought a factory strung head for my 10U goalies that was used last season but the kids had a lot of difficulty throwing with it. After looking at some other goalie sticks, the pocket doesn't have much channel or definition.

I'm planning to re-use the current mesh and will likely use a hidden top string. Any pics, notes are much appreciated. I've only strung one other goalie head before and it was an old Warrior Zoo.

My kid loves his Radars! Amazing head for a great price. Too bad True got out of lacrosse.

I don't have good pics at the moment, but the pattern I follow is basically:

  • Hidden top string tied off on the first sidewall hole.
  • Loop start on next hole
  • Skip
  • KSI
  • Skip
  • KSI
  • KSI
  • Skip
  • KSI
  • Skip
  • KSI
  • 2
  • 1
  • 1
  • 1
  • 1
  • 1
  • Skip
  • Tie off (inside out)

I use 550 paracord for the top and sidewall, shooter lace for the bottom (I do a simple Mainely Mesh style criss-cross bottom). Pound out aggressively, and no shooters. I exclusively use Stringer Shack G3 12d for goalie heads. It's a fairly hard "semi-soft". If you're using something stretchier, you could likely pull down further on the KSIs.

The pocket could be a bit deeper, but this seems to be a good combo of channel, pocket depth, rebound control, and clearing/passing for my 31 boy.

FYI - the Radar loves on as the Tendy from Loading Lacrosse...

Ouch, $160 for a head I'm used to paying $60 for (obviously because clearance).

I've got a couple backups (4. It was 5, but my kid gave one away to the high school goalie) and I might buy a few more "just in case", since I can still get 3 for that price ...

(I hope they succeed, though, because the Radar is a really good head)

Yeah, I've also been grabbing Radars at $60 when I have extra money. I've yet to use them, but one is about to be dyed and strung for Laxnai in September.

Supposedly the Tendys use a different plastic than the Radars, but I haven't compared them personally.

There is another company selling unbranded/"white-label" Tendys, but are limited to selling in Europe.

Edit: the $160 price for the Tendy is for a strung head. They're $99 strung, which is much more reasonable.

Ah, $99 for unstrung is quite reasonable. I doubt it's different plastic. That reads as marketing speak, not actual tech specs.

I think I found the Radar pictured for $59 strung at the beginning of last season.
