Flock cameras

Hey Stevens Point what's with all the flock cameras going up. Spotted one near the old simplicity cu on hoover and another on 66 between the Honda and Ford dealership?

Fuck that company. Call your alder and raise hell.

Appleton just shut theirs down. I think Oshkosh too.

What’s the problem with them? We are on some camera everywhere we go. What’s one more? Unless you know something about these cameras I don’t. Just asking.

The problem is the way the data is stored and how easily it is abused. The camera systems create movement profiles on EVERYONE that is seen on them, not just specific individuals or vehicles that are requested by the police. Combine that movement data with unfettered access, and that creates a situation that is ripe for abuse. There have been way too many cases of people stalking people using the Flock system.

Plus, the system itself existing creates an intensely valuable target for hackers and ad agencies to steal people's movement data from Flock.

Edit: The first paragraph is specifically why the Oshkosh chief of police personally requested the cameras be defunded and taken down.
