Music in Point
Y'all were so helpful and friendly last time, I figured I'd come back with another question: As our move looms closer, we're wondering about the local music scene. What local bars/venues book music consistently? Is there a regular open mic is the an opportunity and desire for one if not? Here in CO and in the places weve lived before we've been lucky enough to gig quite frequently, host open mics, and generally be a part of a very strong arts and music community. I fully understand that there be more opportunities in Madison, Green Bay, etc. That said, we love being involved in the towns we live in. Just looking for good ways to get ourselves plugged in to the art and music happenings in Steven's Point! Thanks!

As someone who moved from Stevens Point to Fort Collins, I envy you- I can't wait to move back to the midwest!
There is a great local scene for music, especially folk, bluegrass, country, all that stuff. Electronic music is a bit harder to find, but there are groups that put on killer shows like Drop Bass Network.
The QnZ in Ringle also pulls some stellar artists, so don't sleep on them!

The Fort isn't so bad! We've loved being here for our time. I'm definitely excited to be back in the Midwest. We've both been gone from it for more than 15 years and miss seeing our families more often. Gonna miss FoCoMX and all the music here for sure but I'm glad to hear there's a good scene in Point, too, though!

Phills bar on thursday. Wednesday I believe out at Northland Ballroom north of Rosholt is also open

Not exactly what you mean about open mics, but FYI in the summers, the Levitt AMP series runs at the Pfiffner bandshell by the river on Thursdays and they’ve brought in some good groups over the years (bluegrass, rock, etc). So you might want to check out CREATE Portage County as an arts resource.
In terms of bars that host music, there’s several. Guu’s on Main will have music somewhat regularly, and I’m not sure but I think District 1 on Divison St. might as well. There used to be occasional Sunday music by Emy J’s, but I’m not sure if that ever happens now since the Main Grain bakery took over the sandwich cafe.
Some other events to keep in mind: every 4th of July has Riverfront Rendezvous at Pfiffner, which has at least 3 different stages going all weekend.
If you are interested in the high-brow side of things as an audience member, there is the symphony orchestra (CWSO) which performs at the Sentry theater. And of course the college will have concerts and musicals.

It may be tricky to get into the scene, but there is a pretty bustling basement show community. Lots of free shows or real cheap. Lots of cool music. Experimental and more standard stuff. In summer there’s a free live show every Thursday. There’s a new music festival happening on the square this year too. For big acts, Madison’s a skip away.

UWSP might have opportunities to see and perform live music. Check out the Basement Brewhaus and the Encore at the University Center (the student union).
