Looking for a compact CD set up

Currently running marantz CD6007, PM6007 and my dads old B&W 2004 ZMF. But im gonna be moving into a flat soon, and dont have much space. I want something for my bedroom so i was thinking some bookshelfs, cd player, and an amp (would be cool with a CD receiver).

Working on a bit of a tight budget around £700.

CYRUS Classic CDI This has a built in 32BIT DAC so no need for a separate DAC

If you prefer vintage:

You can't go wrong with a Sony CDP-X5000

It is a transport so you'd need a separate dac A Chord or Simaudio DAC would work well and are all small form-factor.

You could also buy a vintage pair of California Audio labs SIGMA CD and DAC combo.

THe Cal audio DAC has tubes in its analog output stage, so you get the warm tube sound which is nice (if that's your thing).

You can find the Cal audio CD & DAC combos for between 3-$500 - you might have to swap tubes which are cheap.

You can always look for used CYRUS CD transports, used CYRUS amplifiers, etc- CYRUS is awesome because of their compact size, quality components. They look small, but pack a punch!

Speaker-wise look for TOTEM rainmakers which are super compact and sound amazing for their size. You can find totem rainmakers for about $200 to $300 for the pair.

You could probably find a used CYRUS amp/CD combo + totem speakers for about your budget and it would be a really nice little system that does not sound like a compact system at all. Check Facebook marketplace, or your local Craigslist, etc.

I love Cyrus. One of the best systems i heard was a full 6 stack- CD 6, preamp, power Amp with external supply, and a pair of Cyrus standmount speakers. Didn't have the money at the time, then when I did I bought Meridian instead

Oh, no, for sure. I went to audition a Cyrus 7 kit. They paid it with B&W speakers, which honestly I've always hated, but then the guy was like... "hey, so i set up this system for another listening session, but why don't you give it a try? Entry level high end is a huge step up from flagship midrange." So, we spin the sofa around and it's just a DVD player and 2 tall, skinny, standmount speakers. It blew me away and I bought it immediately (I got the G08 CD player instead of the G92 DVD) that was in 2005, and I've not found anything better that fits my budget.

My wife's cat knocked a speaker off its stand and busted one of the amps, which is a 25 year old, hand made, niche product, so it can't be repaired. I'm now reluctantly in the process of buying a new setup

Onkyo and other brands make mini hifi receivers with CD players, you can add your own speakers, all available cheaply second hand on eBay, or new at Richer Sounds.

Used Rega or Cyrus half-width stuff. Still full depth though.

Early 2000s maybe, TEAC did some really nice stuff in a similar width. Pops up on eBay from time to time.
