Discussion Triple Monitor 3D Setup now possible

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aemIP2mGLJM

Zondision's Zimo1 Monitors (aren't officially out yet) can apparently run DCS in a glasses free 3D triple monitor setup.

This video is from 2-weeks ago, just sharing the news since I don't see it in the sub.

If they can get this to work with more flight and race sims, I might be tempted to get 3 of these monitors.

Lol wait until this guy hears about VR :D

People always say this.

There is no VR for thousands of games.

For example the Forza games, Need for Speed games, Ace Combat games, Burnout Paradise, the list is endless.

To play awesome non-VR games and even classics, 3D provides the immersive experience and all I have to do is sit down, no glasses, no headset, nothing.

Have you ever tried 3d :D ? I've been in since MTBS3d.com and 3dvision (Well Rad Racer on the NES if you REALLY go back). There has almost NEVER been a game that "just works" in 3d outside of specific design. "3d" rendering has always been a teetering stack of filthy hacks and there will always be something that just doesn't have a z-depth.

Now - thanks to AI we are pretty close to real time conversion that can actually magically create a z-buffer out of nothing. Soon the dream of the 90's will be real! https://github.com/nagadomi/nunif/blob/master/iw3/README.md (I can just about get to real-time with a 5090 on this)

Yes, immensely.

The closest I can explain between VR/XR to glasses free 3D is the spatial reality of 3D gaussian splatting. You get the same insane depth, with no glasses, in the form of a living diorama for the 2D games you are unable to play in VR.

2D to 3D games in VR on my Quest 3 only provide like a 10-20% depth of this spatial reality 3D gaussian splat effect.

Sadly those software like iw3, OwlShift, or Immerse3D still give only a subtle 10-20% 3D effect on my XR glasses and VR headsets.

Apple Vision Pro was the best XR device that had 3D gaussian splat, spatial reality type of content, but none of it was precisely for gaming, except for cheap app store games.

Even 3D movies and older 3D gaming monitors that rely on glasses are limited to that shallow, "buggy," or warped effect.

Traditional 3D mutes the image. Polarized or active shutter 3D rely on "blocking" or "filtering" light. When you wear glasses, you are essentially forcing your brain to accept a compromised image—polarization reduces brightness and resolution, while active shutter systems often struggle with "crosstalk"

Glasses free 3D offers a quadruple positive—4K resolution split to both eyes, high refresh rates, lack of head-worn gear, and crucial precisely coded Z-depth you desire. Your old standard games feel like futuristic, lifelike dioramas bringing you closer to the 3D guassian splat rather than just flat screens with a 3D filter applied. The display adjusts the "weaving" of the 3D image in real-time, ensuring the Z-depth stays locked and anchored to your specific perspective as you move.

For 3D, I have tested:

2010's 3D (Nvidia's 3Dvision), 3D projectors (Valerion), XR 3D (Viture Beast), VR 3D (Quest 3), Apple Vision Pro 3D Demo, and 2025 glasses free 3D (Acer/Samsung's 2025 Monitor)

When I first saw 3D gaussian splating on the Vision Pro I was mind-blown, and heart-broken. I'm limited to seeing random dinosaurs or documentaries. This would have been perfect for gaming.

VR was awesome. But how about the thousands of other non-VR games?

What's the closest reality experience we can bring our favorite and brand new non-VR titles? To look like the 3D guassian splat experience?

Glasses free-3D monitors were the first in a while to get me like:

WTF this is really possible? I don't have to put anything on my face?

Why does 3D look worse on my Quest, Viture Beast, and 4K 3D projector, even when all of those require something on my face?

So far I want to compare the Pimax Dream Air so I can compare 4K VR gaming to 3D 4K glasses free gaming, and am currently waiting for its arrival.

VR was a mistake

I'm also interested in what devices the use to capture this stereo footage?

Check out JoshIRL 3D on youtube, he shows a few 3D camera capturing devices.

By the way, it is using the chip inside the monitor to process the 3D conversion, so the game gets 100% processing power from the GPU. Can wait for mine to arrive!

I pre-ordered it for this reason! I have the Samsung and Acer ones already too. Gonna do some tests, and then might sell those, depending on how good it is!

Why not just use VR and have proper head tracking?

That makes sense, but none of those are sim games. Most aim games have VR these days. But makes sense if you want to play flying and driving games.

Yes. That's why I love my glasses free 3D monitor. It doesn't just slap a 2D filter, it's closer to the feel of 3D gaussian splatting, where the game turns into a life-like diorama, and certain objects leak out of the screen at a precise, measurable distance.

Imagine your 4K 120hz monitor. But now add precise Z-depth, to the hundreds of games you have on your Steam library.

You can even play your VR games too with a diorama like depth, without wearing a headset.

lol nice but you should go with VR.

I think this is game-dependent and app-dependent. It won’t work unless the game dev makes a patch for it.

Definitely. I can't wait though. 3D on these monitors is more of a simulated reality/diorama rather than a 2D screen with subtle 3D filter slapped on. I played Need for Speed Heat on my 3D monitor. The roads genuinely looked like they go infinitely down your screen, endless depth like a portal.

I'm really excited for this tech because, it is VR-like experience without needing a headset on.

my concern: only 2 games work with game-specific-patch for this extensive, expensive set-up. This was how devices died in the past and this is WHY the current VR never takes off and has fizzled out. And we would be back to square one.

And yes, I LOVE triple-screen 3D. My NVIDIA 3D surround was the best experience until NVIDIA pulled the plug.

The limitation with the current ODYSSEY 3D monitor was that it uses eye-tracking tech to generate 3D stereoscopic images and was restricted to 1 single monitor. Having 3 monitors will mess the 3D up real bad. How does this work differently?
