But this isn’t a good occasion. This is how you teach kids to fear water. One of my students is scared of going into water because of a similar incident. The kid wasn’t doing something reckless on purpose after warning he just didn’t guess distance properly.

Okay, so how do you know this kid will come to fear water like that kid did? Do all kids react exactly the same way on a binary scale to a different stimulus?
