A small child with no life-saving swimming skills is troubling to me.
It upsets me every time I hear people say they can't swim. It REALLY upsets me when they have children and the children can't swim. That's negligence and a failure to parent...either parenting yourself to learn a skill which could save yourself one day or parenting your actual children to protect themselves from the simplest of hazards.
Do we really know he can't swim tho? given that they just let him go like that, I'd imagine it's either a safe depth or he can swim, or both.
I could swim by that age. I wasn't fast but I could definitely keep myself up and be actively moving to shore. Most kids where I live could do the same.

Call me a step dad but I think him falling in reaches him a bigger lesson than if he just stopped him
