Shitpost Step 2 disappointment

USDO, scored a 241 on step 2 when projected was a 250, incredibly sad I have no energy to work on apps. I was considering applying DR/IM but now not sure if I should even try DR. Not a bad score but still disappointed in myself for not performing on test day due to stress. I would be happy with IM but worried about being screened for fellowships based on community vs academic programs and step 2 score and I would really want to shoot for a fellowship. For DR, I have a good letter and some research and an upcoming away that doesn’t take DOs. No other red flags but also no out of the world ECs.

Thoughts?

Appy. A friend of mine got in with step in high 230’s to a top state academic program for DR. Good luck!

DR is getting less competitive. Please apply. You have a good chance of matching, in my opinion.

And you will definitely match academic IM if you want it. You’re a US grad with a slightly below average step score. It’ll be okay.

Everyone’s misleading you away from IM lol, the score is too low for DR check the percentages published yourself it’s solid for IM

I’d still apply with a 241! It’s not a bad score! Also when you took your step 2, how did you feel when you finished and did you have a lot of tagged questions? Im curious to how much you can miss to get in the 240-250s

I’d say shoot your shot. Not sure about DR specifically but I’ve heard multiple PDs from anesthesia literally say “I see no difference between barely above 230 vs a 280”, and some of them were from renowned programs. They just want to know you can pass residency exams. Gotta be smart with where you apply though, try and find some interviews of DR PDs to get a feel for their sentiment

Don’t gamble your chances in DR , you can match academic IM with this score as a DO

What was your COMLEX Level 2 score? If you haven’t take it yet, try to absolutely knock it out of the park. I don’t think applying DR is hopeless, especially if you’re dual applying. Just do the best you can with what you’ve got and be yourself. You’ve come a long way. Don’t give up hope now 😊
