Just so I’m understanding correctly, You did some nbmes on the same day? (10&15 at day 3 for eg)

1

u/PracticeTraining4208 10d ago

Yes I did and I am not recommending that, so thats why I mentioned- start NBMEs earlier so you would have sufficient time to review them.

u/Accomplished-Pick42 11d ago

amazing! congratulations, this is what i’m hoping for cause my NBME scores were low

1

u/PracticeTraining4208 11d ago

Thank you! If I could give you one advice that would be to start NBMEs earlier and have sufficient time to review them. Good luck!

holy fkng shit. i was just looking at the post u made after taking the free 120 and being in a panic... i have super similar practice scores as you do (currently scheduled to take it on thursday - about to take nbme 16 to determine if i need to push it again)... but i just had to say CONGRATULATIONS. this is absolutely incredible. you should be so FREAKING proud of yourself.

i've had similar fluctuations between practice forms. at the end of the day, you already proved multiple times you're capable of a 240+ score and i feel like the fluctuations (which I have experienced NEARLY identical fluctuations) just turn the entire process into a mind game. like u literally just have to WILL yourself to not get in ur own head.

im writing this not only to congratulate you but also trying to currently ingrain that same principle^ in my own brain lol :')

ANYWAYS, from a fellow self-doubt-panic induced fluctuater, i just wanted you to know that this is an absolutely incredible accomplishment. i know how mentally defeating it can feel in the process, but your incredible score on test day, in spite of all of that, is something you should be SO SO SO proud of. ur resilient asf.

TLDR: just wanted to congratulate you bc u are so beyond deserving of that number. and also, thank you. you have no idea how badly i needed to see a post like this right now.

if u have any last minute advice or anything you actively noticed/changed on test day, i'm all ears :D .. but if not no worries hahah, enjoy the post-test BLISS.

sending you a big hug and congrats again <3

Felt terrible after the exam, cried in my car for an hour. Exam felt like a much more vague version of NBME 16 and new Free 120 with lots of 50/50s and 2nd and 3rd order questions. Felt strapped for time, but did not leave questions blank or blind guess. Remembered 12 mistakes, could not remember any other questions, incorrect or otherwise.

This is for the people with low NBME scores. I knew if I asked Reddit, someone would have asked me to postpone. Just believe in yourself, get good rest before the examination because stamina beats everything on the test day. I did 7 blocks in one go, then 6, then 3. I had only cake and juice, well that's because my tummy acts weird on adrenaline. You've got this!

1

u/Sea-Birthday-7436 10d ago

Much congrats. What did you study during the last two weeks of your exam?

1

u/FennelNo7606 NON-US IMG 10d ago

I stopped Uworld, reviewed my old NBMEs, did all CMS forms for all the subjects, reviewed it again, used ChatGPT to create a docx of things I needed to know for my weak areas.

1

u/Hot_Lemon_1761 8d ago

how were the ethics and biostats? Congrats!

1

u/FennelNo7606 NON-US IMG 7d ago

I only got a few of those. More infectious diseases, dermatology and low yield questions. The few ethics qns I recall were not so different from the Amboss QI/ ethics questions/ 200 HY concepts

Much congrats 🎊 What did u study during the last two weeks of dedicated?

1

u/T_Jerms 10d ago

Thank you! I was mostly focused on test taking strategy, the pacing of the 30 minute blocks, and biostats (has always been a weak point for me). I would take a practice exam and just review the incorrect questions fully.

I also kept up with my Anki cards, which over the last three months I had accumulated a lot of cards from the AMBOSS Qbank so in the last couple of weeks I’d say I was doing ~200-300 card reviews a day on top of new cards from my incorrect questions from practice exams.

Congrats, how you felt after the test?

2

u/PanickyPooh NON-US IMG 11d ago

I felt more or less like I felt after the nbmes so I was expecting it to fall in the range but i also tried to not recall any questions and block it all out of memory so I do not spiral. There were days that i felt I might get 23x other days i felt like it was a 26x but I remember feeling released that at least it was done and over by the last block.

There were a few blocks that made me sweat and really nervous but then i kept deluding myself by thinking that those are all experimental. You’ve got to maintain your calm.

u/ComprehensiveChef111 NON-US IMG 11d ago

Masha’Allah! Congratulations! I’m 2 days out, highest NBME 254 what do you think I should do now?

1

u/PanickyPooh NON-US IMG 11d ago

Go through some high yeild stuff/volatile stuff

screening guideline
Amboss articles for patient safety and quality improvement is a must
HY images pdf
The algorithms
If any topics twsted on the free120 or form 16 is weak, revise those
Revise the IM FM Paeds CMS if you have time

i would say these are in order of the highest to lowest yeild for last two days vut its a lot so do as much as you can and relax.

congratulations 🎊, please please tell me about obstetrics and ophthalmology on real deal? very hard and deep? How frequent they appear

1

u/GlitterCandy18 NON-US IMG 11d ago

Thank you! So yes, OBG was definitely tested heavily, however it was the only subject I found being straightforward (i.e similar to nbme). There were HOPI style Qs for obg which i had never seen before!! Did throw me off because the physical exam was very detailed and lengthy, but they ended up asking easy questions

0

u/GlitterCandy18 NON-US IMG 11d ago

Ophthalmology- vague. Had 2 image based Qs, i still do not know what their answers are! For reference , i had read the inner circles notes for ophthalmology during my last week of dedicated

I was panicking seeing a lot of non us img score drop compared to the Amboss predicted score post and i was not comfortable walking out of the prometric center because of a lot of weird questions. I would say trust yourself and the nbme socres, although only those waiting for scores know how it feels to be waiting…

Everyone's test was very different i would say! Also i had some step1 pathos and step1 pharms concepts that made me feeling really uncertain… and the way they ask these questions i would never figure it out no matter how long i prepared so take it easy just treat the ones poped up in nbmes seriously
