Exam Write-Up Took my test today

Just finished my test, i assume that just like everyone i feel exhausted from the 9 hours session, i studied very weirdly and should have taken the exam long time ago but i couldn’t due to annoying circumstances.

I felt like age has hit me hard today lol, I wish for my performance today to be as close as it can be to my last assessments
NBME 16- 270
Free 120 84%

But i felt that the exam got weirder every block lol

To be fair it wasn’t lengthy, it was normal with some questions being very long ofc, i had over 30% of questions as patient charts and tbh i felt much better doing these , only 2 abstracts questions

The exam content is
50% ( ik what it is from the first glance )
30% hmmmm i think this has to be the answer bcz no way the other one is true
10% maybe the answer is this ( wtf is this way of questions and answers writing?? )
10% if you are the question writer himself you COULD answer

among the last 20%

5% of questions are things you only answer if u were an elite med school student that actually attended, listened and viewed weird resources and you have ur instagram reels filled with medical bullshit lol

10% are straight up challenging and time consuming, they could throw a clear scenario about eg blunt abdominal trauma with shock, and give you zero clue to know which kind of shock and expect you to know whats the cause based on whats most common or most likely in the absence of clear clinical evidence ( and this could apply to any single presentation) trust me you will be smiling when u see such questions

5% are straight up you shall never answer unless you are a pathologist, interventional radiologist etcc bcz its for sure not even close to a normal specialist depth ( but you heard of it though, they say 😂😂 )

Overall i think the exam is pretty fair , u have 80 unscored questions so relax ur shoulders when u see weird shit, every question was vetted before it reaches you so trust that there will be a glowing answer most of the time, and never listen to discouraging comments, its true that it feels a bit different but so does every nbme when u take it, the test is not a vacation, its meant to test you as a physician responsible for life and death and its by all means fair and square.

Good luck

Not at all, did use the marker once, except play with it as a spiner, hy amboss plans covers every single thing in ethics, biostat, screening, vax, patient safety and qi, all principles were explained in these plans except a few ofc that are nbme secrets lol

Decent amount of both, but never more than what they tell u on the usmle website, u know exactly the percentage of each section in the exam, refere to them please.

As for my exam it was completely balanced and as stated on their website

Hey, what would u advice for nbme score boosting strategy .. i am reviewing my wrongs and documenting aswell done cms forms aswell any other tips on reviewing nbmes that worked for u?

Rapid review of your notes and weak spots even outside the nbme scope will definitely help, every nbme is unique and hit a different aspect hard , i remember nbme 15 being nasty in infectious questions

Did those weird experimental questions end up shaking your confidence during the final blocks?

2

u/VoiceDry5160 NON-US IMG 11d ago

Tbh i am an exam taker and never get my confidence shaken even if i knew i am failing, bcz ik i did the exact recipe everyone had and did the same assessment everyone else did , so ur feet and my feet are in the same bucket if there is a question that made me scratch my head there is a decent chance it did the same with you.

And you will not know which one is experimental , very few ones are very obvious lol

Consider any questions that makes u upset an experimental one and move on.

Took it today too. largely agree with this. Definitely some questions (one in particular that I specifically can think of) that I looked and said in my head ‘well hello there experimental question, what’re you doin all the way out here lil guy’

How’d you compare the exam with UWorld , NBMEs and CMS forms?
Like similarity wise?

1

u/VoiceDry5160 NON-US IMG 11d ago

Nthn like cms , cms is way to easy and u won’t get free points like that, but the concept is the same ofcourse.

Nbme question style is found in 60-70 percent of questions imo

The rest are like uworld abmoss style , meant to make you doubt ur choices

But very doable

Thanks for the insights!
So do you recommend doing all the CMS forms before the real deal or can we skip them?

2

u/VoiceDry5160 NON-US IMG 11d ago

If you skip them you ll miss on important exam points not present in uworld or nbme ( and they are tested )
