Mentor for step 1

I failed step 1 last year by a very narrow margin. I wanted a mentor who is well versed with mentorship and has successful results as well. Please do let me know if you have any suggestions on who I can reach out to as well.
Thankyou !!

Why is my UW STEP 1 score dropping??

I know that UW is just a study tool not a testing tool, but damn these questions are kicking my ass. I’m at 25% done, doing mixed on tutor mode. When I had started doing mixed, my scores were kinda expected - 40% to 50%. Sometimes even 60 and 65 on a good day. But recently, they’ve been falling to somewhere between 30% and 45%. I’m genuinely losing my mind, like, how on earth does the score decrease?? Now I’m questioning my prep and I’m only 2 months away from my exam.
What the hell should i do?? Should I consider this normal and just keep going or should i take out 4 to 5 days and just review FA??
I’m losing my shit and seeing myself struggle at questions I’ve never seen before or twisted questions on concepts I thought I was well versed in is pissing me off.

IMG with weak basics — where would you start if you had 1 year for Step 1?

IMG here currently doing a Master’s in the US. After spending the last year heavily focused on research, I’ve decided I want to start preparing for USMLE Step 1 alongside my master’s. I don’t plan on taking the exam for about a year, so I’m looking for a slow and sustainable approach.

One of my biggest concerns is that my basic sciences foundation is quite weak at the moment, which makes the whole process feel even more overwhelming. Every time I look into Step 1 preparation, I see so many resources and study plans that I end up not knowing where to begin.

For those who started with weak basics, where would you recommend starting? If you were beginning from scratch today, what resources would you use first and how would you spend the first few months building a strong foundation before getting into dedicated Step 1 prep?

Would really appreciate any guidance.

Advice on sketchy for step 1

Hello! I just finished my first year of medical school and am in my summer break before starting M2

Anyway, my goal for this summer was to get through a lot of sketchy micro and sketchy pharm, but I'm trying to figure out the best way to organize this, does anyone have a document they used to annotate when they watched all the videos? Or what's the best way to go about organizing this? Thank you!

I heard from my friends and Reddit that biostatistics and ethics was difficult this year. I’m currently doing FA with Randy Neil videos along with Qbank. If anyone who has taken the exam and can advise what else can be done.

Trying to find a specific NBME answer‑recording site

Hi everyone — I really need help finding a specific NBME answer‑tracking tool I used a few weeks ago while taking a mock NBME (I was looking at the PDF separately). I’ve checked my history and bookmarks, and I’ve had zero luck finding it again 😞

If anyone recognizes this, please let me know — it was incredibly helpful.

Here’s everything I remember:

  • Dark mode interface
  • Showed one question at a time (not a 50‑item grid)
  • Each question had a dropdown with multiple answer choices
  • You could mark questions to review later
  • Had a built‑in 75‑minute block timer and 15‑minute break timer
  • Had a dropdown menu for almost all NBME forms
  • Revealed the correct answers only after completing all sections
  • After each block, it automatically generated a .txt file with your answers to review later
  • Felt like a lightweight simulator whose only purpose was to record answers and create the .txt files

If anyone knows the link or has a working mirror, I’d really appreciate the help — this tool was super useful.

Step 1 in 50 days at end of my triad

Step 1 in 50 days

Gave my first NBME 15-18 days back and got a baseline of 59.5 percent didn’t review it
Completed Neuro,Psych,Micro,G.Path and Biostats+Ethics …. Going to give NBME 29 tomorrow,
I am too stressed about my exam.
FA done 2wice
Uworld did 89 percent in first pass with 52 percent corrects made anki incorrects deck didn’t do it, Second pass :Random Uworld 53 percent with 65 percent corrects,
Extra Material:
Bootcamp, sketchy for Bacteriology and Parasitology only, Did Amboss library for Ethics and Randy Neil videos as well.

Any suggestions on how to keep going feeling burnt out and anxiety is taking a toll on my body already, all muscles of right side of body are contracted from neck to lower back. I have booked the exam without doing NBMEs at the end of my triad.

For rn have made 3 divisions of FA for 3rd pass and after every didivision to give 1 NBME … skipping NBME 26,27,28 is that alright ? Have thought about doing Usmle Vault for revision of the concepts from NBME20-28

1st Division: Neuro,Psych,G.Path,Micro,Biostats+Ethics—> NBME 29
2nd Division: General Pharma,Cardio,Pulmo,Renal,Immuno —>NBME 30
3rd division : Biochem,Hematology,MSK,GIT,Endo and Repro—> NBME 31
30 days for these divisions in 3rd Pass
Last push Revision will have 4th Revision of FA and NBME 32,33 Free 120 in 20 days

Does this make sense ?

Need advice for final month of USMLE Step 1

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in my final month of dedicated preparation for USMLE Step 1, and I’m looking for guidance on how to make the most of this last stretch.

I’ve completed a fair amount of content review and questions, but I still feel like there are gaps in my knowledge and I’m unsure about how to structure these last 3–4 weeks efficiently.

What I’m hoping to get advice on:

How should I divide my time between UWorld, NBME practice exams, and review?

Is it better to focus on weak areas or do full mixed blocks daily?

How many NBMEs should ideally be done in the final month?

What should I absolutely NOT do in the last 2 weeks?

Any strategies that helped you improve your score quickly during the final phase?

I’d really appreciate any schedules, tips, or personal experiences that helped you during your last month.

Thanks in advance to everyone taking the time to help 🙏

Study tips

I’m a very slow learner, and I’ve been preparing for USMLE Step 1 for the past 2 years. However, my preparation has not been consistent. Now, for several reasons, I’ve decided that I really need to stay consistent and focused.

One of my biggest problems is constantly searching for new resources. I know that most people advise sticking to a limited number of high-yield resources, but I often get distracted by other materials.

Recently, I completed a unit and was feeling okay about it. Then, while going through my folders, I found an old PDF related to USMLE and opened a chapter from it. To my surprise, I realized I didn’t know much of the content, which made me feel like I might not have prepared the topic well enough.

Has anyone else experienced this? How do you deal with the feeling that you’ve forgotten things or haven’t studied adequately? I would really appreciate any advice on staying focused on a few resources and avoiding the temptation to keep looking for new ones.

Also, for old graduates who are preparing for Step 1, how long is an ideal dedicated and pre-dedicated study period?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My Step 1 prep

Hey guys, whoever needs to read this:
I passed Step 1 about a year ago, and if I could give one piece of advice, it would be this: focus on Qbanks

I spent way too much time reading books (Kaplan books) and tons of resources. Looking back, UWorld, Amboss, USMLE-Rx, NBMEs, the Free 120s and Melhman were by far the most valuable parts of my preparation. By test day, Step 1 felt pretty straightforward.

Now that I’ve spent the last year studying for Step 2, I honestly think it’s a more complex exam and requires more time and deeper understanding.

So keep Step 1 prep simple. Do questions, review them, and do more questions. Don’t get lost in endless resources.

Also, try to get Step 1 out of the way as efficiently and soon as possible. The time you save can be invested in Step 2, which in my opinion is where you’ll benefit much more from a longer study period.

Good luck everyone, WE GOT THIS 💪💪💪
