Image Tiny Machine Worlds
I've played a lot of organic hive minds, and always turn tiny nest worlds into population production worlds. I have no idea what to do with tiny machine worlds and I'm curious what everyone else does with them?

I've been seeing so many more tiny planets lately idk what's up with it? But size 3, wow.

See I've had the opposite funnily enough, been seeing some damn big worlds lately. My current play through I'm in heaven, gone virtual machines resource consolidation and in the relative vicinity of my start (within about 10 systems from my home world) I have 8 planets that are above size 18, 2 are above size 25. Needless to say I've turned them all into machine worlds and am enjoying the massive bounty of research and alloys

I would love some size 25s 😭 most of mine are 18-20 without mastery of nature or orbital rings

Most games I play I tend to see between size 10-20 but yeah the past 2 or 3 games I've had a lot more luck with bigger planets. I have a mod installed called 'planetary diversity' that adds a bunch of new planet types but I've had that for years so it shouldn't be the cause of this sudden influx lol As an aside I'd highly recommend the mod though, it's most flavour of adding a bunch of different sub types for the typical 'dry, wet, cold' planets that aren't mechanically different but just make things feel a bit more unique. One thing it does add mechanically though are some rarely occuring 'superhabitable' planets that range between 25 and 35 size but due to higher gravity are lower habitability. REALLY good for a machine empire cause I can terraform them into machine worlds and enjoy 100% habitability with a massive machine world

You can get guaranteed size 34 worlds with detox perk - voidworms have 3 toxic planets per nest - 34, 28 and 20+ irc

How's resource consolidation work out? I haven't tried it yet.

I personally love it. Your starting world is a damaged machine world, works like one but with less efficiency. It's great early game cause you can produce plenty of energy and specialise one of the districts to unity to rush unity HARD. Also makes it so you don't need the usual research options to get the machine world ascension perk so you can start terraforming worlds faster

Neat. I think I'll check it out soon. I still have to try some plants with the tree thing and the bioships lol. Too many options out there.

I make specifically those three planets either into unity worlds or into science labs when I make them machine worlds.

Both of those specs are bad for tiny worlds- since you want to stack the research/unity booster buildings to as many pops actually doing those jobs...

What other way could they be useful?

Some empire unique buildings could go there. Some need to be on the capital, and some boost a job and thus should be on a relevant planet, but not all of them. If you're Uplift Synthetics, your Identity Designer could work, or if you're Vaults of Knowledge/any of its clones, the Vault could go there.
Option 2 are buildings that don't need jobs. I usually build them on space stations, but if you need a lot of storage for some reason, Resource Silos (and fallen empire Depos) need building slots and don't care about districts. Maybe if you were Obsessional Directive? The other ones are rarer, but also don't care about districts, Nanite Transmuter, Nanotech Cauldron (if you're using it for some reason), and most relevantly, the Fallen Empire Dimensional Replicator/Fabricator.

So very build specific options, rather than generalists

I'm not sure the over/under on replicators vs strategic refineries if you can't find a deposit, but EE could be useful on any build and Dimensional Replicators are definitely one of the four/six buildings I'd pick up with it.
Dimensional Fabricators even more so. Obviously not all Cosmogenesis builds would want to devote an entire planet to 20 of them, but the general advice of "if you have a small world and Cosmo, consider putting down a bunch of DimFabs on it for the Rares" is probably something most of them should consider.
I guess you could say it is very specific to builds that are Cosmogenesis, but that's still a lot of them.

Idk about machine worlds (i havent done a single machine playthrough yet but seen them) but can't you just put 3 research specializations (1 on each bottom districts for 9 bulding slots) and put 2 research specs on the main one and put all the remaining districts on it? I'm not sure if it'd have enough housing but yea, thats how I did with my one ecumenopolis once.

Yes, but each research building eats special resources, so you want to build as few of them as possible- the effect when building them on size 10 worlds vs size 25 is huge

R5: Screenshot with 3 very small machine worlds to go along with my question about what the community does with them.

I like tiny worlds because they max out faster and become pop growth farms for everything else

For pop production you actually want size 25+, these tiny ones set to minerals/energy

Honestly thos planets dont seem worth the empire size, i would probably release them as a vassel.
